Spiral staircase: a modular product
Our staircases indoor spiral staircases provide a simple answer to a complex problem: lack of space. Combining wood and metal, spiral curves, and a helical sweep, the indoor staircase is modern thanks to its contemporary design. Outside, the metal helical staircase is a durable solution for accessing the upper floor. To find the right helical staircase, the concepts of safety, number of treads, and assembly are important.
Spiral staircase: steel structure and safety
Benefit from our expertise and opt for a helical staircase designed for intensive use. Woodup designs spiral staircases that guarantee a high level of safety. Our spiral staircases consist of a steel structure and an extremely strong landing. Each helical staircase model features a landing balustrade and a handrail with flat bars, cables, or tubes (lacquered steel, stainless steel), meeting the strictest safety standards.
Diameter of indoor and outdoor spiral staircases
All spiral staircases in the Woodup range are available in different diameters. The helical staircase is exemplary in terms of modularity:
• space-saving model, 120 cm diameter, for assembly in a compact indoor space;
• standard model, 140 cm diameter, combining space saving with easy progression;
• comfort model, 160 cm diameter, the majestic option for a compact space.
Larger staircase diameters are available on request.
Spiral staircase: adjustable treads
Choose a height-adjustable spiral staircase model and make assembly easier for yourself. Almost all spiral staircases in our range offer the option of adding an extra tread. This is a solution for improving the comfort of progression in height, for example:
• staircase height 3740: 16 treads;
• staircase height 2330: 10 treads.
Some spiral staircase models allow height adjustment between 2 treads (21.5 to 23.5 cm).
Helical staircase: the space-saving option
Whether in wood or metal, the spiral staircase takes up less space than a straight staircase or a quarter-turn staircase. Spiral staircases are the only staircases that can be installed in a round well opening. Woodup provides an additional modularity solution by offering, as an option, an adaptable landing for a round or square well opening. The helical staircase also provides a solution for the entry or exit of the staircase at the upper floor, thanks to the choice of rotation direction (clockwise or anti-clockwise).
Kit assembly of the spiral staircase: straightforward
One of the great advantages of designer spiral staircases is their kit assembly. The design of our packages guarantees delivery of our staircases in perfect condition, after rigorous quality control. Assembling our kit-delivered spiral staircases is easy thanks to a detailed instruction manual. From fitting the central column to installing the treads and the balustrade, Woodup staircases are easy to assemble.
Assembly precautions
The Woodup spiral staircase is designed for assembly without a craftsman. It meets DIY project requirements. Supplied as a kit, it is designed from A to Z for easy assembly. The central stringer, treads, handrail, and balustrade adjust without modification.
Before starting, take stock. Double-check your measurements and dimensions before drilling. Fitting the central stringer to the floor is the first step. If you have underfloor heating, refer to the specific fixing device in our catalogue.
Maintenance and upkeep
A true handcrafted product, the Woodup spiral staircase is a durable product. The wooden treads are made of beech or glued laminated oak for greater stability. The steel of the stringer is thick and of high quality. Like any handcrafted product, the staircase requires regular maintenance.
To extend its lifespan, protect the wooden treads. Before first use, apply a hard oil, varnish, or floor finish. Clean the staircase regularly with mild household products. Limit water use, opt for damp wipes.
The spiral staircase and the contemporary home
To facilitate assembly according to the finished floor-to-floor height of each home, our spiral staircases are height-adjustable. On the aesthetic side, our spiral staircase range offers a wide choice of materials, colours, and styles. You will find the model that will integrate elegantly into the targeted indoor or outdoor space.
Choosing spiral staircase treads: wood or metal
Spiral staircases offer an extremely diverse range of materials. In solid wood or glued laminated timber, the treads and the landing, 30 or 40 mm thick, are available in a raw or stained finish:
• treads on a metal structure in glued laminated beech;
• beech treads, natural and walnut finishes;
• treads on a metal structure in solid oak.
Some staircase models offer fully metal treads (contemporary staircase, outdoor staircase).
Helical staircase: finish and colours
The Woodup spiral staircase offers several colour options to harmoniously complement your interior design (silver-grey lacquered steel structure, white, black). The fully metallic, galvanised staircase fits perfectly into an interior or exterior with a contemporary design.
Choice of styles: the helical staircase opens up a world of possibilities
Contemporary black metal spiral staircase, modern helical staircase with grey metal structure, white MDF treads, bi-material metal and beech spiral staircases — spiral staircases give a unique finish to a loft, a room with access to the upper floor, or a workshop.

Standards and safety
By its very nature, the spiral staircase must guarantee the safety of its users. All our models comply with staircase standards. This is particularly the case for the tread depth, the height between treads, and the balustrade height.
Beyond style, colours, and decorative elements, our spiral staircases guarantee ergonomics. They facilitate going up and down with arms full. Most models support up to 200 kg/m².
Choosing your Woodup spiral staircase wisely
Choosing a spiral staircase is straightforward if you follow a methodical approach. The process involves using a decision matrix. It must take into account usage, architecture, and interior design, as well as dimensions, of course. Woodup shares the method used by its experts.
1 - Dimensions
Measure the well opening carefully. The principle is to choose the staircase that "fits". Also take the finished floor-to-floor height measurements. Often, the first tread allows the staircase to be adjusted so it "lands correctly" at the upper floor landing.
2 - Architecture
A spiral staircase may be chosen due to lack of space. If the well opening allows it, opt for a 140 cm diameter — a good compromise between space saving and ergonomics. Make sure the staircase entry (ground floor) is perfectly positioned.
3 - Conditions of use
Is the spiral staircase the main staircase in the home? If so, adapt your choice accordingly. Use will be intensive. Allow for oak treads, which are very robust. With young children, prefer a balustrade with vertical balusters.
4 - Décor and style
Take into account the décor, its style, and the dominant colours. Also assess the natural light sources. In a dark interior, we recommend beech, a lighter wood than oak. Complete the look with a white or grey metal structure.

FAQ - Your questions about spiral staircases
A true craftsman designer and manufacturer of staircases, Woodup supports its customers from A to Z. Help is available from your very first steps via our chatbot. Choosing and installing a spiral staircase raises questions. Discover our initial answers.
How long will it take to receive my staircase?
Our staircases are shipped to you via our dedicated carrier. The average delivery time for in-stock models is 10 to 15 days. Are you considering a bespoke spiral staircase? Allow 6 to 8 weeks.
Can you really assemble the staircase yourself?
Yes. Our staircases are designed for DIY assembly. No carpentry skills are required. Installation is within the reach of a DIY enthusiast. However, we recommend getting some help — particularly for fitting the treads onto the central stringer and securing the landing.
What is the best diameter?
A comfortable diameter: 160 cm. But the configuration does not always allow it. If space is an issue, 140 cm is a good compromise. In extreme situations, we offer diameters of 110 or 120 cm for space-saving models.
Can a metal staircase be installed indoors?
Yes. We supply spiral staircases in painted white metal for indoor use. You can choose from a model with a diameter of 100 to 160 cm, 10 to 17 treads, or a bespoke model. Metal brings a distinctly contemporary and highly elegant design.
Space-saving straight staircase or spiral staircase?
This question relates to a constrained interior architecture. If the well opening allows it, opt for the spiral staircase. It is more comfortable and safer to use than a space-saving straight staircase with alternating treads. It allows going up and down with arms full.
