This round solid ash Ø42 mm handrail features a cylindrical profile and a 21x5 mm groove for fixing to standard wall brackets. Ash is a hard hardwood (density ~700 kg/m³), with a fine grain and naturally light colour — beige to off-white with slightly golden highlights. These characteristics make it a popular choice for contemporary interiors where the brightness of the wood is sought.

The cylindrical profile of 42 mm diameter ensures a continuous and even grip along the full length, without any angle or relief that could catch the palm. This quality is particularly appreciated on steep staircases where the hand slides along the full length of the handrail. Use restricted to indoor only — without specific preservative treatment, ash warps and deteriorates rapidly in a damp outdoor environment.

Installation advice

Select brackets compatible with the 21x5 mm groove. Position them at regular intervals, with a maximum spacing of 80 cm between two fixing points. Install the handrail at a height between 80 and 100 cm from the step nosing or finished floor.

Ash is a hard wood — carry out systematic pre-drilling before any screwing to avoid splitting, particularly within 5 cm of the ends. Apply the finish preferably before installation, when the piece is still accessible on all its faces — including the groove and cut ends.

Maintenance and protection

Raw ash must be treated before use. Recommended finishes depending on the desired result:

Water-based staircase varnish: 2 to 3 coats, neutral finish on light wood, resistance to friction, durability 5 to 7 years
Colourless polyurethane varnish: good protection, gloss or satin finish, durability 4 to 6 years
Interior wood oil-wax: natural matt finish, maintenance every 1 to 2 years

For routine maintenance, a slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid all abrasive or acidic products. The light colour of ash may slightly yellow over time under the effect of light — a natural phenomenon with no impact on the mechanical properties of the wood.
