Custom spruce panel — made to measure to the nearest mm

The WoodUp custom spruce panel is made from glued laminated spruce (non-finger-jointed laminations), FSC / PEFC certified. It is cut and machined to order according to your exact specifications: 10 to 300 cm in length, 10 to 120 cm in width, to the nearest millimetre. Commonly referred to as "fir" in everyday language, spruce is a lightweight and easy-to-work softwood with a white to slightly yellowish colour and a fine, regular grain. More affordable than hardwoods, it is suitable for everyday interior fittings (shelving, wall cladding, simple furniture). Its relatively soft surface makes it susceptible to impact marks — a protective finish is recommended. The panel is delivered with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded raw, oiled or varnished. A protective finish is recommended before use if you choose the sanded raw option.

Configure dimensions, thickness, shape (straight, oval, circle, octagon), edge machining (chamfer, rounded edge, quarter-round) and rounded corners directly on this page. For on-request options (drilling, laser engraving, digital cutting), contact the WoodUp customer service team before finalising your order.

Usage and finishing advice

If you have chosen the sanded raw option, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane varnish (2 to 3 coats) provides the best resistance. For a natural matte look, a hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood — to be renewed every 1 to 2 years depending on use. Apply the finish to all faces before installation, including those that will be inaccessible once in place.

Before any installation, store the panel flat in the room where it will be used for 48 to 72 hours to allow it to acclimatise to the ambient humidity.

WoodUp tip

What to know before ordering: spruce is softer than beech or oak — impact marks may appear on unfinished surfaces. Its light colour takes paint and tinted wood stains well. For heavily loaded shelves, choose the 40 mm thickness for spans greater than 60 cm.

Frequently asked questions

Can this panel be ordered with rounded edges or a special shape?

Yes. Several machining options are available in the configurator: chamfer, rounded edge and quarter-round for edges, rounded corners, and special oval, circle or octagon shapes. For complex options (drilling, digital cutting, laser engraving), contact the WoodUp customer service team before finalising your order.

Can this panel be used outdoors?

No. This panel is intended for indoor use only. For outdoor use or damp environments, opt for a panel with a suitable treatment or a naturally resistant wood species.

What finish should be applied to this panel?

The panel is delivered sanded, ready to finish. For a surface subject to wear: polyurethane varnish in 2 to 3 coats. For a natural look: hard oil to be renewed every 1 to 2 years. For a personalised colour: wood stain or wood paint. In all cases, finish all faces before installation.

What is the delivery lead time?

The panel is made to order and dispatched within 5 to 10 working days. You can track progress from your WoodUp customer account.

Can spruce be painted or stained?

Yes. Spruce takes paint and tinted wood stains well thanks to its light surface and regular grain. Sand with 180-grit paper before application. For paint, a primer suitable for softwoods is recommended to prevent resin bleed-through.

What load can a spruce shelf support?

At 21 mm thickness, the maximum recommended span without support is 50 cm. At 27 mm, up to 70 cm. At 40 mm, up to 90–100 cm depending on the load. For heavily loaded shelves, opt for the greater thickness or reduce the span between supports.

How do I order drilling or laser engraving options?

These options are carried out on request — they are not available in the online configurator. Contact the WoodUp customer service team with your plans and specifications before placing your order.
