Bespoke walnut panel – made to measure to the nearest mm

The WoodUp bespoke walnut panel is made from edge-glued American walnut with full-length staves and is FSC / PEFC certified. It is cut and machined to order to your exact specifications: 10 to 250 cm long and 10 to 120 cm wide, to the nearest millimetre. American walnut (Juglans nigra) is one of the most prized woods in fine cabinetmaking. Its deep chocolate-brown colour with purple undertones, flowing grain and naturally silky surface make it an exceptional wood. The maximum available length is limited to 250 cm due to the availability of the timber. The panel is supplied with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. A protective finish is recommended before use if you choose the sanded, unfinished option.

Configure the dimensions, thickness, shape (rectangular, oval, circle, octagon), edge machining (chamfered, rounded, quarter-round) and rounded corners directly on this page. For options available on request (drilling, laser printing, digital cutting), contact WoodUp customer service before completing your order.

Advice on use and finishing

If you have chosen the sanded, unfinished option, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, polyurethane varnish (2 to 3 coats) offers the best resistance. For a natural matt look, hardwax oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood – reapply every 1 to 2 years depending on use. Finish all faces before installation, including those that will be inaccessible afterwards.

Before installation, store the panel flat in the room where it will be used for 48 to 72 hours so it can acclimatise to the ambient humidity.

WoodUp advice

Good to know before ordering: American walnut availability varies, so order ahead if your project is urgent. The maximum length is 250 cm. The 20 mm thickness is suitable for cladding and lightweight shelves; 40 mm is recommended for worktops and tabletops. Its colour will gradually develop into a warmer brown with exposure to light – a natural characteristic of walnut.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order this panel with rounded edges or a custom shape?

Yes. Several machining options are available in the configurator: chamfered, rounded and quarter-round edges, rounded corners, and custom oval, circular or octagonal shapes. For more complex options (drilling, digital cutting, laser printing), contact WoodUp customer service before completing your order.

Can this panel be used outdoors?

No. This panel is for indoor use only. For outdoor use or damp environments, choose a suitably treated panel or a naturally resistant wood species.

Which finish should I apply to this panel?

The panel is supplied sanded and ready to finish. For a surface subject to wear, apply polyurethane varnish in 2 to 3 coats. For a natural look, use hardwax oil, reapplying every 1 to 2 years. For a custom colour, choose wood stain or paint. In every case, finish all faces before installation.

What is the delivery time?

The panel is made to order and dispatched within 5 to 10 working days. You can track its progress through your WoodUp customer account.

What is the difference between American and European walnut?

American walnut (Juglans nigra) has a deep chocolate-brown colour with distinctive purple undertones. European walnut (Juglans regia) is lighter, ranging from beige to brown with grey grain. WoodUp offers American walnut exclusively, prized for its striking appearance.

Is walnut suitable for a tabletop?

Yes – it is one of the most common uses for walnut in cabinetmaking. At 40 mm thick, the bespoke walnut panel provides the rigidity and appearance needed for a tabletop. Choose hardwax oil or matt varnish to preserve its natural tones without making it look heavy.

How do I order drilling or laser printing options?

These options are available on request and are not listed in the online configurator. Contact WoodUp customer service with your drawings and specifications before placing your order.
