The WoodUp black Valchromat panel is made from black Valchromat (through-coloured, moisture-resistant MDF), certified to E1 standard (low formaldehyde emission). It is cut and machined to order according to your exact specifications: 10 to 300 cm in length, 10 to 120 cm in width, to the nearest millimetre. Valchromat is not a solid wood panel but a through-coloured MDF: the wood fibres are individually impregnated with organic dyes and then bound with a special resin, resulting in a uniform colour throughout the entire thickness — unlike painted MDF, the colour does not wear away at the surface. The material is moisture-resistant and denser than standard MDF, with good resistance to bending. The panel is delivered with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded raw, oiled or varnished. A protective finish is recommended before use if you opt for the sanded raw finish.

Usage and finishing advice
If you have opted for the sanded raw finish, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane varnish (2 to 3 coats) offers the best resistance. For a natural matte appearance, a hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood — to be renewed every 1 to 2 years depending on use. Apply the finish to all faces before installation, including those that will be inaccessible once in place.
Before any installation, store the panel flat in the room where it will be used for 48 to 72 hours so that it acclimatises to the ambient humidity.

What to know before ordering: unlike the solid wood panels in this range, Valchromat is a through-coloured MDF — its colour is uniform throughout the entire thickness, meaning that a cut or machining operation always reveals the same black hue in cross-section. The material is moisture-resistant but not waterproof: it must not be in direct and prolonged contact with water (worktops, showers). A clear workshop varnish protects the surface without masking the colour. Indoor use only.

Yes. Several machining options are available in the configurator: chamfer, rounded edge and quarter-round for edges, rounded corners, and special oval, circle or octagon shapes. What finish should be applied to this panel?
The panel is delivered with the chosen option: sanded raw, oiled or varnished. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane varnish in 2 to 3 coats offers the best resistance. For a natural appearance, a hard oil to be renewed every 1 to 2 years. Finish all faces before installation.

Is Valchromat wood or MDF?
Valchromat is a through-coloured wood fibre panel (MDF) — it is not solid wood or plywood. Its distinctive feature is that the black colour permeates the entire thickness of the panel, unlike an MDF that is simply painted on the surface.
Can the black Valchromat panel be used in humid environments?
Valchromat is moisture-resistant, which allows it to better withstand humid environments (well-ventilated bathrooms) compared to standard MDF. However, it must never be in direct and prolonged contact with water — avoid use as sink worktops or shower enclosures without reinforced protection.
What thicknesses are available for black Valchromat?
WoodUp offers black Valchromat in 3 thicknesses: 8 mm for lightweight cladding and decorative cuts, 19 mm for versatile use (shelving, furniture panels), and 30 mm for parts requiring greater rigidity such as certain tabletops or supports.
