Black Valchromat panel – made to measure to the nearest mm
WoodUp’s black Valchromat panel is made from black Valchromat (through-coloured, moisture-resistant MDF), certified to E1 standard (low formaldehyde emissions). It is cut and machined to order to your exact specifications: 10 to 300 cm long and 10 to 120 cm wide, to the nearest millimetre. Valchromat is not a solid wood panel but through-coloured MDF: the wood fibres are individually impregnated with organic dyes and then bonded with a special resin, giving an even colour throughout the panel’s thickness. Unlike painted MDF, the colour does not wear away at the surface. The material is moisture-resistant and denser than standard MDF, with good bending strength. The panel is supplied with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. A protective finish is recommended before use if you choose the sanded, unfinished option.
Configure the dimensions, thickness, shape (rectangular, oval, circle or octagon), edge machining (chamfered, rounded or quarter-round) and rounded corners directly on this page. Advice on use and finishing
If you have chosen the sanded, unfinished option, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane floor varnish (2 to 3 coats) offers the best resistance. For a natural matt appearance, a hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood; reapply it every 1 to 2 years depending on use. Finish every face before installation, including those that will be inaccessible afterwards.
Before working with the panel, store it flat in the room where it will be used for 48 to 72 hours to allow it to acclimatise to the ambient humidity.
WoodUp advice
Before you order: unlike the solid wood panels in this range, Valchromat is through-coloured MDF. Its colour is uniform throughout its thickness, so cutting or machining always reveals the same black shade on the cut edge. The material is moisture-resistant but not waterproof: it must not be in direct, prolonged contact with water (such as on a worktop or in a shower). A clear varnish applied in the workshop protects the surface without concealing its colour. For indoor use only.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order this panel with rounded edges or a special shape?
Yes. Several machining options are available in the configurator: chamfered, rounded and quarter-round edges, rounded corners, and special oval, circular or octagonal shapes. For more complex options (drilling, CNC cutting or laser printing), contact WoodUp customer service before completing your order.
What finish should I apply to this panel?
The panel is supplied in the finish selected: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane floor varnish applied in 2 to 3 coats offers the best resistance. For a natural appearance, use a hard oil, reapplied every 1 to 2 years. Finish every face before installation.
What is the delivery time?
The panel is made to order and dispatched within 10 working days. You can track its progress in your WoodUp customer account.
Is Valchromat wood or MDF?
Valchromat is a through-coloured wood fibre panel (MDF), not solid wood or plywood. Its distinguishing feature is that the black colour runs through the entire thickness of the panel, unlike MDF that is simply painted on the surface.
Can the black Valchromat panel be used in damp environments?
Valchromat is moisture-resistant, so it withstands damp environments, such as a well-ventilated bathroom, better than standard MDF. It must never be in direct, prolonged contact with water: do not use it around sinks or in shower enclosures without additional protection.
What thicknesses are available for black Valchromat?
WoodUp offers black Valchromat in three thicknesses: 8 mm for lightweight cladding and decorative cut-outs, 19 mm for versatile use (shelves and furniture panels), and 30 mm for pieces requiring greater rigidity, such as certain tops or supports.
How do I order drilling or laser printing options?
These options are available on request and are not listed in the online configurator. Contact WoodUp customer service with your plans and specifications before placing your order.
