Grey Valchromat panel - made to measure to the nearest mm

The grey Valchromat panel is through-coloured, moisture-resistant MDF with an E1 classification (low formaldehyde emissions). WoodUp cuts and machines it to order to your measurements: 10 to 300 cm long, 10 to 120 cm wide, to the nearest millimetre, in 8, 19 or 30 mm thicknesses.

Valchromat is not solid wood. Its wood fibres are individually impregnated with organic dyes, then bonded with resin, so the grey colour runs through the entire thickness. A cut, chamfer or rounded edge reveals the same colour, with no visible base layer as there would be with painted MDF. The material is also denser than standard MDF.

On this page, configure the dimensions, thickness, shape (rectangular, oval, circular, octagonal), edge profile (chamfered, rounded, quarter-round), rounded corners and finish: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. If supplied sanded and unfinished, a protective finish must be applied before use. For drilling, laser printing or digital cutting, contact WoodUp customer service before ordering.

Advice on use and finishing

Before use, store the panel flat in the room where it will be installed for 48 to 72 hours so it can acclimatise to the ambient humidity.

If supplied sanded and unfinished, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, polyurethane floor varnish in 2 to 3 coats offers the best resistance. For a matt appearance, hard oil penetrates the fibres; reapply it every 1 to 2 years, depending on use. Treat all faces before installation, including those that will no longer be accessible.

WoodUp advice

Before ordering, please note: Valchromat is moisture-resistant, but not waterproof. It must not remain in prolonged direct contact with water, such as on a sink worktop or in a shower. A clear varnish protects the surface without concealing the grey colour. For indoor use only.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between grey Valchromat and black Valchromat?

Only the colour differs. Grey Valchromat and black Valchromat are the same through-coloured, moisture-resistant MDF, available from WoodUp in the same dimensions, thicknesses, machining options and finishes.

Is Valchromat wood or MDF?

Valchromat is through-coloured wood fibreboard (MDF): it is neither solid wood nor plywood. Its distinguishing feature is that the colour runs through the entire thickness of the panel, whereas painted MDF is coloured only on the surface.

Which thickness of grey Valchromat should I choose?

WoodUp offers grey Valchromat in 3 thicknesses. 8 mm is suitable for lightweight cladding and decorative cut-outs, 19 mm for versatile uses (shelves, furniture panels), and 30 mm for pieces requiring greater rigidity, such as certain worktops or supports.

Can I order a grey Valchromat panel with rounded edges or a special shape?

Yes. The configurator offers chamfered, rounded and quarter-round edge profiles, rounded corners, and oval, circular or octagonal shapes. For drilling, digital cutting or laser printing, contact WoodUp customer service before finalising your order.

Can grey Valchromat be used in a damp environment?

Yes, in a well-ventilated damp room such as a bathroom: Valchromat is moisture-resistant and withstands humidity better than standard MDF. However, it must never be in prolonged direct contact with water; avoid using it for sink worktops or in shower enclosures without additional protection.

What is the delivery time for a made-to-measure grey Valchromat panel?

The panel is made to order and dispatched within 10 working days.
