Choosing the right box

This case is designed for sorting small, lightweight items: sewing supplies, craft materials, tea, costume jewellery and small collections. The thin dividers are not designed for heavy hardware or tools. For those, choose a sturdier storage crate.

Because the wood is unfinished, the box should not be left outdoors, in a damp garage or in a cellar. A finish protects the surface from stains and dust but does not make it suitable for outdoor use.

Personalisation and finishing

Before painting, sand lightly with fine-grit sandpaper, then remove the dust thoroughly. Cover the hinges, clasps and handle with masking tape to avoid staining them.

Several finishes are possible:

• Acrylic paint: the easiest option for a child’s box or a craft project. Apply two thin coats.
• Interior wood stain or woodstain: colours the wood while leaving the grain visible.
• Clear varnish: preserves the natural look and makes cleaning easier.

If you paint the compartments, leave the lid open while the paint dries so it does not stick when you close it.

Care

Dust with a dry cloth or a slightly damp, well-wrung cloth. On untreated, unfinished wood, avoid prolonged contact with water, which can mark the surface. If a hinge becomes stiff over time, a drop of light oil will loosen it.
