Straight outdoor metal staircase Flex Grid Zinc - 6 to 14 steps
This straight outdoor staircase in galvanised and black powder-coated steel can cover finished floor-to-floor heights of up to 345 cm. It is installed to provide access to a raised terrace, an upper-level entrance or any outdoor layout requiring direct access from the garden.
The structure combines galvanisation, which protects the steel against corrosion, with a black powder coating that further enhances this protection whilst giving the staircase a uniform appearance. The steps are made from anti-slip grating: their open mesh allows water, snow and dirt to pass through, reducing slippery surfaces in wet or icy conditions.
The staircase height is adjusted by modifying the angle of inclination, without any cutting or additional parts. It is available in four sizes: 6, 10, 12 or 14 steps, covering finished floor-to-floor heights of 91.5 cm to 345.2 cm depending on the number of steps selected and the inclination chosen.

Height ranges and footprints according to number of steps
Each size can be adjusted to several effective step counts. The steeper the inclination, the greater the finished floor-to-floor height covered and the less floor space the staircase occupies: the two values move in opposite directions.
| Size | Effective steps | Finished floor-to-floor height | Footprint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flex 6 | 4 | 91.5 - 115.0 cm | 109.0 - 91.2 cm |
| Flex 6 | 5 | 109.5 - 138.0 cm | 133.0 - 109.0 cm |
| Flex 6 | 6 | 127.5 - 161.2 cm | 156.0 - 127.0 cm |
| Flex 10 | 8 | 163.5 - 207.2 cm | 202.0 - 163.0 cm |
| Flex 10 | 9 | 181.5 - 230.2 cm | 225.0 - 180.9 cm |
| Flex 10 | 10 | 199.5 - 253.2 cm | 247.7 - 199.0 cm |
| Flex 12 | 12 | 235.5 - 299.2 cm | 293.7 - 235.0 cm |
| Flex 14 | 13 | 253.2 - 322.2 cm | 317.0 - 253.0 cm |
| Flex 14 | 14 | 271.5 - 345.2 cm | 340.0 - 271.0 cm |

Installation advice
Preparation: check that the slab or decking opening has a minimum clearance of 2000 x 860 mm. The starting surface (concrete slab, terrace, pad) must be flat, stable and capable of bearing the load of the staircase and its users. Ensure a suitable receiving surface at the top of the staircase appropriate to the target height.
Adjustment: the effective number of steps and the angle of inclination determine the finished floor-to-floor height covered, which ranges depending on the model between 91.5 cm and 345.2 cm. Adjust the inclination before final fixing to achieve the desired riser height, between 180 and 230 mm.
Fixing: secure the stringers at the base and top of the staircase with fasteners suitable for the substrate (not supplied unless otherwise stated on the product sheet). Assembly requires a minimum of two people given the weight and size of the structure.
Finishing: check the horizontality of each step after fixing and the correct locking of the balustrade, supplied at a height of 1050 mm.
Maintenance and protection
The combination of galvanisation and powder coating significantly reduces the maintenance required. Clean the staircase 1 to 2 times per year with clean water and a mild soap, using a soft brush, paying particular attention to the grating where leaves and deposits can accumulate. Avoid abrasive products or solvents, which can damage the powder-coated finish.
In the event of a chip or deep scratch on the powder coating, a localised touch-up with a compatible anti-rust paint prevents corrosion from developing on the exposed steel. An annual check of the tightness of the fixings is recommended, particularly after periods of frost.

WoodUp Advice
Before confirming the size, measure the exact finished floor-to-floor height between the starting point and the arrival point: a difference of a few centimetres is enough to shift from one size to another, as each model covers a specific range (for example 91.5 to 161.2 cm for the Flex 6). What to know before buying: also check the available footprint at the base of the staircase, which ranges from 91 cm to 340 cm depending on the size and inclination chosen, as well as the nature of the receiving surface at the top of the staircase.
Frequently asked questions
How do you adjust the height of the Flex Grid Zinc staircase?
The height is adjusted by modifying the angle of inclination of the staircase, which varies the riser height between 180 and 230 mm. Depending on the size chosen (6, 10, 12 or 14 steps) and the effective number of steps selected, the finished floor-to-floor height covered ranges from 91.5 cm to 345.2 cm.
What slab opening should be planned for installation?
A minimum opening of 2000 x 860 mm is required at the top of the staircase. This dimension corresponds to the clearance space required for passage, regardless of the staircase size chosen.
What is the lifespan of an outdoor staircase in galvanised and powder-coated steel?
Galvanisation protects the steel against corrosion over the long term, and the black powder coating adds an additional layer of protection against the elements. Maintenance limited to an annual clean and a check of the fixings is sufficient to preserve the structure in outdoor use.
Is this staircase compatible with a timber or composite decking?
The staircase can be fixed to any stable, flat surface capable of bearing its load: concrete slab, timber or composite decking on reinforced joists, or concrete pad. The fixing must be suitable for the receiving surface, to be checked according to the nature of the terrace.
Are the grating steps slippery in rain or icy conditions?
The anti-slip grating steps remain usable in icy, wet or dirty conditions. Their open mesh drains away water, snow and dirt rather than retaining them on the surface, unlike a solid step.
Which staircase size should you choose based on the finished floor-to-floor height to cover?
The Flex 6 model covers heights from 91.5 to 161.2 cm, the Flex 10 from 163.5 to 253.2 cm, the Flex 12 up to 299.2 cm and the Flex 14 from 253.2 to 345.2 cm. Measure the exact height between the starting floor and the arrival level before selecting the appropriate size.
