WoodUp’s made-to-measure three-ply spruce panel is made from PEFC-certified three-ply spruce (three cold-bonded layers, with the middle layer running at 90°). It is cut and machined to order to your exact specifications: 10 to 300 cm long and 10 to 120 cm wide, to the nearest millimetre. The three-ply spruce panel consists of three cold-bonded layers of wood: the outer layers are spruce, while the middle layer runs at 90° to their grain. This cross-layered structure gives the panel high mechanical strength and good dimensional stability, comparable to engineered plywood but with visible wood on both faces. The panel is supplied with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. A protective finish is recommended before use if you choose the sanded, unfinished option.

Use and finishing advice

If you choose the sanded, unfinished option, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane floor varnish (two to three coats) offers the best resistance. For a natural matt look, a hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood – reapply every one to two years, depending on use. Apply the finish to every face before installation, including those that will be inaccessible afterwards.

Before installation, store the panel flat in the room where it will be used for 48 to 72 hours so it can acclimatise to the ambient humidity.

WoodUp tip

Before ordering: the cross-layered structure of three-ply wood makes it more resistant to bending than a solid wood panel of the same thickness – suitable for furniture, shelves, interior fittings and even sheltered exterior cladding. Available in AB grade (uniform appearance, small knots permitted) or B grade (more pronounced grain, more knots). A finish must be applied before installation: oil, varnish or wood stain, depending on use. Allow 10 days for it to dry after application before putting the panel into use.

What finish should I apply to this panel?

There is no difference – they are two trade names for the same construction: three layers of wood cold-bonded together, with the middle layer running at 90° to the outer layers. WoodUp uses both names across its ranges, but the product is identical.

Is the three-ply spruce panel suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, in a sheltered outdoor area (under a canopy or on a covered terrace) with a suitable finish (exterior wood stain or a Class 3 exterior varnish). This panel is not recommended for unprotected outdoor use: spruce is a softwood that remains vulnerable to prolonged moisture exposure without treatment.
