20 mm three-ply steamed beech panel – made to measure to the nearest mm
WoodUp’s 20 mm three-ply steamed beech panel is made from three-ply steamed beech (3 layers cold-glued, with the centre layer cross-grained at 90°) and is PEFC certified. It is cut and machined to order to your exact specifications: 10 to 300 cm long and 10 to 120 cm wide, to the nearest millimetre. The three-ply steamed beech panel combines a cross-grained structure with beech that has been heat-treated by steaming. Steaming produces a consistent caramel-brown colour and reduces the wood’s internal stresses, providing better dimensional stability than untreated beech. The centre layer, cross-grained at 90°, also provides high mechanical strength. The panel is supplied with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. If you choose the sanded, unfinished option, a protective finish is recommended before use.
Configure the dimensions, thickness, shape (rectangular, oval, circular or octagonal), edge machining (chamfered, rounded or quarter-round) and rounded corners directly on this page. Advice on use and finishing
If you choose the sanded, unfinished option, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane floor varnish (2 to 3 coats) offers the best resistance. For a natural matt look, a hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood; reapply every 1 to 2 years, depending on use. Finish all faces before installation, including those that will be inaccessible afterwards.
Before use, store the panel flat in the room where it will be installed for 48 to 72 hours so it can acclimatise to the ambient humidity.
WoodUp advice
Before ordering: the combination of a three-ply structure and steamed beech makes this a particularly stable panel, suitable for furniture and fittings requiring precise, fixed dimensions. Pre-drilling is recommended before fixing with screws. For indoor use only – beech is not suitable for outdoor use, even when steamed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order this panel with rounded edges or a custom shape?
Yes. Several machining options are available in the configurator: chamfered, rounded and quarter-round edges, rounded corners, and oval, circular or octagonal shapes. For more complex options (drilling, CNC cutting or laser printing), contact WoodUp customer service before completing your order.
What finish should I apply to this panel?
The panel is supplied with your chosen finish: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. For a surface subject to wear, 2 to 3 coats of polyurethane floor varnish offer the best resistance. For a natural look, use a hard oil, reapplied every 1 to 2 years. Finish all faces before installation.
How long does delivery take?
The panel is made to order and dispatched within 10 working days. You can track its progress through your WoodUp customer account.
Why combine a three-ply structure with steamed beech?
This combination provides two stability benefits: the cross-grained centre layer of the three-ply panel limits shrinkage and swelling across its width, while steaming the beech reduces the wood’s natural internal stresses. The result is a panel that remains particularly stable over time, suitable for precision furniture and interior fittings.
How do I order drilling or laser printing options?
These options are available on request and are not shown in the online configurator. Contact WoodUp customer service with your plans and specifications before placing your order.
