Beech heartwood three-ply panel, 20 mm – made to measure to the nearest mm

WoodUp’s 20 mm beech heartwood three-ply panel is made from three cold-glued plies of beech heartwood, with the centre ply set at 90°, and is PEFC certified. It is cut and machined to order to your exact specifications: 10 to 300 cm long and 10 to 120 cm wide, to the nearest millimetre. The outer plies are made from beech heartwood, whose distinctive pinkish-brown colour contrasts with conventional steamed beech. The centre ply, set at 90°, provides the same high mechanical strength as other three-ply panels. The panel is supplied with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded and unfinished, oiled or varnished. If you choose the sanded, unfinished option, a protective finish is recommended before use.

Use and finishing advice

If you choose the sanded, unfinished option, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, polyurethane floor varnish (2 to 3 coats) provides the best resistance. For a natural matt look, hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood – reapply every 1 to 2 years, depending on use. Apply the finish to every face before installation, including those that will be inaccessible afterwards.

Before use, store the panel flat in the room where it will be installed for 48 to 72 hours to let it acclimatise to the ambient humidity.

WoodUp tip

Before ordering: beech heartwood has a warmer, more pronounced appearance than conventional steamed beech (ID 962). Each panel may show natural colour variations due to the distribution of heartwood in the logs. Pre-drilling before screwing is recommended. Indoor use only.

What is the difference between beech heartwood three-ply and steamed beech three-ply?

Beech heartwood (ID 963) uses the heartwood of the beech tree, which naturally has a more pronounced pinkish-brown colour. Steamed beech (ID 962) has undergone heat treatment that evens out its colour to a uniform caramel brown. The choice depends on the look you want: more contrast with beech heartwood, or a more uniform appearance with steamed beech.
