Outdoor staircase: designer, durable, great value

Essential for accessing a roof terrace or a mezzanine, the Woodup outdoor staircase is elegant and resistant. Carefully designed, our outdoor staircases have style, dressing the façade of your home or your garden with elegance.
In a professional environment, the outdoor metal staircase brings both safety and décor. Available in spiral or straight staircase models, the Woodup outdoor staircase is made from materials ready to withstand the harshest weather conditions.

The outdoor staircase: safety, evacuation and décor

In a house, the outdoor staircase is an ideal structure for going up and down to a roof terrace or a mezzanine. In a professional setting, the outdoor staircase is often galvanised, straight, quarter-turn, spiral and helps enhance the décor of a façade or a customer-facing building.
Establishments open to the public have evacuation and safety obligations. Outdoor staircases allow establishments (hospitals, theatres, cinemas, institutions) to remain compliant with fire regulations.

Guaranteed French and European manufacture

Woodup is a company based in Auvergne. All our garden and outdoor staircases are manufactured in France or in Europe. We have established partnerships with experts from Poland and Romania, recognised for their expertise.

We leave no customer without a solution. Whether the outdoor staircase is standard or bespoke, you benefit from comprehensive support. Our goal: to secure the purchase and installation. An expert adviser is available at every stage of your project.

Compliance with staircase and balustrade standards

An outdoor staircase must be particularly safe. All our staircases comply with current standards (NF P01-012, NF P01-013). Assembly, corrosion protection, balustrade, steps, handrail, stringer: every aspect is studied and checked.

Environmental commitment and forest protection

At Woodup, respect for the environment is not just an option. It is a holistic approach. Wood is our guiding thread. The species come from PEFC-certified forests. Our materials come from nearby European countries. Our logistics circuits limit CO2 emissions.

The outdoor metal staircase: galvanised steel

Woodup offers a range of metal staircases in aluminium and hot-dip galvanised metal. Hot-dip galvanisation coats your staircase with a layer of zinc, protecting it from oxidation and therefore from corrosion. This type of designer staircase features anti-slip steps for greater safety. You will also have the option of choosing a staircase fitted with a landing and one or two handrails. It is also a choice focused on durability.
We also offer in this metal staircase range a modular staircase with a number of steps ranging from 6, 7, 12 or 14 steps. It can therefore be adapted to the height of your terrace or garden.

The spiral outdoor metal staircase

Woodup has considered professionals with a spiral outdoor staircase model specially designed for heavy loads. The steps are anti-slip, the metal staircase is available in three diameters (120, 140, 160) with an aluminium handrail. For a more designer look, you can choose an indoor/outdoor model, adjustable in height (10 to 16 steps), in galvanised steel with a PVC handrail, and three diameters (120, 140, 160).

Straight outdoor metal staircase

The advantage of this straight outdoor metal staircase is its modularity. Available in 2 to 14 steps, the staircase allows you to climb a height of 63 cm to 3 m. The structure (stringers and steps) is made of galvanised steel, the handrail and posts are in stainless steel. This model is designed for transporting heavy loads; the steps are made of grating.

Outdoor wooden staircases: the straight model

In our outdoor wooden staircase range, our staircase in Douglas fir is a type of staircase offering exceptional resistance to the elements. Wood adds undeniable charm to your outdoor spaces, whether on a wooden or concrete terrace, all at a more accessible budget than exotic wood staircases. Douglas fir also warms up your outdoor areas with its slightly red colour and its very pronounced natural grain.

Choose your width and height for your outdoor wooden staircase

Because the installation constraints of an outdoor staircase are numerous, the outdoor wooden staircase is available in 4 widths (from 60 to 90 cm). The staircase steps are of a large section (34 mm thick), reinforcing the robustness of the staircase. Adjustable on metal pivots, the staircase is available in 14 steps, for a height of 2.2 to 3 m. Ideal for accessing a terrace and enjoying the view.

The durability of the Woodup outdoor wooden staircase

Is your home in a damp area? Opt for our outdoor staircase rated 3 out of 5 in the wood use class. This classification stems from standard NF EN 335-1 to 3 on the risks of exposure to moisture. The wood we use benefits from this classification, which allows permanent contact with moisture, even above 20%. The distinctive feature of our wood is that it achieves this high rating without any treatment (autoclave or thermo-heating).

Outdoor staircase accessories: enhance your safety

All our outdoor staircases can be fitted with staircase handrails and railings for your safety, whether in metal or outdoor wood structure. For the finishing of your outdoor terrace or mezzanine, opt for the galvanised steel balustrade 2 m in length with four horizontal rails.
To widen the landing structure of the upper level, choose the galvanised steel metal landing (83 x 83 cm) with its two balustrades. You can also count on our additional or replacement steps, for straight wooden or spiral metal staircases.

Outdoor staircase maintenance and décor: our products

To keep your outdoor wooden staircase looking its best, plan to apply a tannin-blocking primer to the steps, stringers, handrail and balustrade. Materials such as wood, when used outdoors, require specific maintenance. To protect your outdoor wooden staircase, the regular application of a finishing oil is strongly recommended. You will find on our website a wide range of natural oils for exterior wood:

  • anti-UV;

  • anti-greying;

  • natural or honey finish.

The essentials for choosing your outdoor staircase

Before buying an outdoor staircase, take the time to define your needs. But that is not all. You must also consider other criteria. These include, for example, safety, height and style. Woodup supports you with this 7-point method.

Criterion 1: height to climb and incline

Measure the floor-to-floor height. This determines the number of steps the staircase must have. But also its pitch. A staircase that is too steep is uncomfortable. If the outdoor staircase is too long, it can be an obstruction on a terrace. Consult our advice centre.

Criterion 2: intensity of use and loads

The outdoor staircase is often an occasional staircase. But exceptions exist. The staircase can serve as daily access to the home (chalet, house with a half-basement) or to a professional premises. The type of use of the staircase determines its parameters (assembly, material, handrail).

Criterion 3: exposure to the elements

Examine the planned location for the outdoor staircase. Is it exposed to prevailing rain and winds? Is the staircase positioned on the north side of the house? If it is very exposed to moisture or rain, opt for galvanised metal. This is an almost permanent treatment against rust.

Criterion 4: materials

For outdoor use, we recommend all-metal staircases. However, within this staircase family, you have a choice. Galvanised metal staircases and painted metal staircases are available. For a more decorative product, the special outdoor wooden staircase (Douglas fir or larch) is available.

Criterion 5: staircase ergonomics

The ergonomics of a staircase relates to comfort and standards. The aim is to install a staircase that ensures smooth movement. Steps 80 cm wide (straight staircase) guarantee easy use. For a spiral staircase, plan a diameter of 140 to 160 cm.

Criterion 6: safety accessories

Outdoors, the risks of falling on a staircase are greater. Handrails, balustrades, landings and barriers enhance safety. Woodup offers complete kits for each model. Some staircases are fitted with anti-slip surface steps.

Criterion 7: style and appearance

An outdoor staircase can enhance a garden, a terrace or a façade. A wooden staircase (Douglas fir or larch) is a decorative product full of charm. Our straight metal staircases add a contemporary touch to a home. Browse all products before purchasing.
