Custom oak glulam panel — A/B quality

The WoodUp custom oak panel is made from A/B quality oak glulam, PEFC certified. It is cut and machined to order according to your exact specifications: length from 10 to 300 cm, width from 10 to 120 cm, to the nearest millimetre. Three thicknesses are available — 20 mm, 32 mm and 40 mm — to cover common uses in cabinetmaking, fitting out and interior joinery. The boards are non-finger-jointed and glued side by side, ensuring a homogeneous surface with no visible joins. The panel is delivered with the finish selected in the configurator: sanded raw, oiled or varnished. A protective finish is recommended before use if you opt for the sanded raw option.

Oak is a hard, dense wood, prized for its mechanical strength and pronounced grain. In glulam form, its dimensional stability is improved compared to solid single-piece oak — it reacts less to variations in ambient humidity, making it well suited to worktops, shelving, desk surfaces and wall cladding. The natural tannins in oak can cause black stains on contact with iron: use stainless steel or brass screws and tools for all assemblies.

Usage and finishing advice

If you have opted for the sanded raw finish, apply a protective finish before use. For a worktop or a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane varnish (2 to 3 coats) offers the best resistance. For a natural matt look, a hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood deeply — to be renewed every 1 to 2 years. A coloured wood stain can enhance or soften the natural tone of the oak.

Before installation, store the panel flat in the room where it will be used for 48 to 72 hours so it can acclimatise to the ambient humidity. For assemblies, use exclusively stainless steel or brass screws and hardware — bare steel screws cause indelible black stains on contact with the tannins in oak.

WoodUp Tip

What to know before ordering: the panel is cut exactly to the dimensions entered in the configurator. Allow 1 to 2 mm of clearance on each side if the panel needs to fit into a frame or groove. A/B quality means that face A has no visible defects and face B may have sound knots up to 20 mm in diameter: if both faces are visible in your project, please specify this before confirming. For options available on request (drilling, laser engraving, CNC cutting), contact WoodUp customer service before placing your order.

Frequently asked questions

Which thickness should I choose for an oak worktop?

For a standard worktop, a thickness of 40 mm is recommended: it provides the rigidity needed for spans up to 80 cm without intermediate support. For a short-span shelf (less than 60 cm), 20 mm is sufficient. 32 mm is suitable for desks and light work surfaces.

Can I order an oak panel with rounded edges or a special shape?

Yes. Several machining options are available in the configurator: chamfer, round and quarter round for edges, rounded corners, and special shapes including oval, circle or octagon. For complex options (drilling, CNC cutting, laser engraving), contact WoodUp customer service before finalising your order.

Can the custom oak panel be used outdoors?

No. A/B quality oak glulam is intended for indoor use only. For outdoor use or in humid environments, opt for a panel with a suitable treatment or a naturally resistant wood species.

What is the difference between oak glulam and solid single-piece oak?

Glulam is made up of boards glued together side by side, which improves dimensional stability — the panel moves less than solid single-piece wood in response to humidity variations. For large surfaces, it is a more reliable choice and is available in wider formats.

What is the lead time for a custom oak panel?

The panel is made to order and dispatched within 10 working days. You can track progress from your WoodUp customer account.

How do I order with drilling or laser engraving options?

These options are carried out on request — they do not appear in the online configurator. Contact WoodUp customer service with your plans and specifications before placing your order to confirm feasibility and obtain a quote.
