Made-to-measure wooden double quarter-turn staircase
This double quarter-turn staircase is made to your measurements in fir, laminated beech or laminated oak. It connects two levels across three flights, making two 90° turns.
Enter the finished-floor-to-finished-floor height, the lengths of the three flights, the width (up to 1000 mm) and the stairwell opening dimensions in the configurator. Then choose the turning direction, tread and stringer thickness (30 or 40 mm), stringer type, risers, banister and finish. The price is calculated as you make your choices.
After you order, WoodUp checks that the project is feasible, then sends you a construction plan and a 3D view for approval. Manufacturing begins only after you approve them, and the staircase is delivered 8 to 10 weeks later, as a kit or pre-assembled.

Choosing the right double quarter-turn staircase
A double quarter-turn staircase suits a room that cannot accommodate a straight staircase because it would be too long, or a single quarter-turn staircase because it would arrive facing an inconvenient direction. Its two turns fold the staircase back on itself, so you arrive upstairs facing the opposite direction from where you started.
Before configuring your staircase, check three things. The finished-floor-to-finished-floor height must include any planned floor coverings, such as tiles or parquet, both downstairs and upstairs. The stairwell opening must provide sufficient headroom above the steps. Finally, the width you choose affects comfort and whether you can carry furniture upstairs.
For the finish, unfinished wood lets you varnish or paint the staircase yourself, while natural varnish, white limed or grey finishes give you a staircase that is already protected.
Installation tips
Taking measurements: use the WoodUp measurement guide and measure the available floor length for each flight. If in doubt, attach the completed guide, plans or photos at the final step of the configurator.
Delivery: a staircase delivered as a kit is assembled on site following the construction plan. The pre-assembled version reduces work on site but requires sufficient access to bring the sections into the house.
Installation: secure the staircase according to the approved plan, checking that the stringers are plumb and the treads level. At least two people are needed to assemble a turning staircase.
Care and protection
An unfinished staircase must be protected before use: two to three coats of staircase varnish will withstand foot traffic and rubbing. Varnished or stained finishes can be cared for with a slightly damp cloth, without abrasive cleaners. Dust the treads regularly to reduce wear to the finish.
Frequently asked questions
What is a double quarter-turn staircase?
This staircase makes two 90° turns between the bottom and top. It has three flights: the second is perpendicular to the first, and the third is parallel to it. Also known as a two-quarter-turn or 2/4-turn staircase, its two turns let it arrive upstairs facing the opposite direction from its starting point, within a smaller footprint.
How can I tell whether my double quarter-turn staircase turns left or right?
The turning direction is determined as you ascend. If the staircase turns towards your left hand as you go up, it is a left-turning double quarter-turn staircase; if it turns towards your right hand, it is right-turning. The choice depends on the positions of the starting point and stairwell opening in your room.
What measurements do I need for a made-to-measure staircase?
You need the finished-floor-to-finished-floor height, including floor coverings downstairs and upstairs; the available lengths for the three flights (L1, L2, L3); the desired width; the stairwell opening dimensions; and the floor slab thickness. The WoodUp measurement guide shows where to measure each dimension.
How is the price of a made-to-measure double quarter-turn staircase calculated?
The configurator calculates the price from your measurements and options: wood species, tread and stringer thickness, stringer type, risers, banister, upper-floor balustrade, finish and delivery as a kit or pre-assembled. The price is displayed and updates with each choice, before you order.
Which wood species should I choose for a made-to-measure wooden staircase?
Fir is the lightest and most economical option, often chosen for painting. Laminated beech is harder and has a subtle grain. Laminated oak has the most pronounced appearance and suits natural varnished finishes. All three wood species can take the finishes offered.
How long does it take to receive a made-to-measure staircase?
Allow 8 to 10 weeks after the plans are approved. After you order, WoodUp reviews the project, then sends you a construction plan and a 3D view to approve and sign. Manufacturing then begins, and delivery is arranged by appointment.
