Straight Beech Glulam Staircase – Beech Handrail and Grey Epoxy Metal Tubes

This straight glulam beech staircase is delivered with a handrail combining a beech handrail section 50×50 mm and grey epoxy metal tubes diameter 18 mm. With a total width of 82 cm (handrail included) and a footprint of 276 cm, it covers standard configurations for a floor-to-floor height of 280 cm in 14 steps. The first step is overhanging. The handrail is available in right or left mounting depending on the room configuration.

This model belongs to the Standard range. It is delivered raw: a protective finish is mandatory before first use on the beech parts (steps and handrail). The epoxy metal tubes are factory-finished. This model is available as a quarter-turn bottom version under the name CHAMBLES.

Installation advice

Preparation: Choose the side of the handrail (right or left) before ordering — this choice cannot be changed afterwards. Check the footprint of 276 cm in the direction of ascent. The PERTUIS staircase plan is downloadable on the product page for prior verification.

Overhanging first step: Position it first and check its level carefully — it determines the alignment of the entire flight.

Epoxy metal tubes: Assemble according to the plan provided. Do not apply any product to the tubes (factory finish). Check the squareness of the uprights before final tightening.

Wood finish: Apply the protective coating to the steps and the beech handrail. Two people are required for the installation of the components.

Maintenance and protection

Beech parts (steps and handrail): finishing is mandatory before use.

Staircase varnish: 2 to 3 coats, renewal every 5 to 7 years
Oil-wax: natural finish, annual renewal

Epoxy metal tubes: wipe with a soft dry cloth, no abrasives. Recommended humidity: 45 to 65%.

What is the difference between the PERTUIS staircase and the CHAMBLES staircase?

PERTUIS is a straight staircase (footprint 276 cm, height 280 cm). CHAMBLES is the quarter-turn bottom version of the same model (footprint 279 cm, height 300 cm, going 19.5 cm, starting handrail included). Both share the same bi-material handrail (beech 50×50 mm + grey epoxy metal Ø18 mm) and the overhanging first step. If the stairwell is aligned lengthwise, choose PERTUIS; if it requires a turn at the bottom, opt for CHAMBLES.

Can the side of the handrail be chosen after receiving the staircase?

No. The right or left orientation is set at the time of ordering. It determines the design of the stringers and the handrail. If in doubt, contact WoodUp customer service specifying the direction of travel before finalising your purchase.

What is the purpose of the overhanging first step?

An overhanging step provides a slightly wider support surface for the first step and gives a wider visual base at the bottom of the staircase. Its positioning must be precise during installation as it determines the alignment of all subsequent steps.

Do the grey epoxy metal tubes withstand daily wear?

Yes, for standard residential interior use. The epoxy coating withstands regular contact and light impacts. It is not suitable for outdoor use or permanently humid environments.
