Woodbox wooden crate, apple-crate style
The Woodbox is a natural wood crate inspired by apple crates. On its own, it provides storage or serves as a decorative piece; combined with others, it becomes a shelving unit, bookcase or low cabinet sized to suit the room.
It comes in three sizes, 36 x 36 x 32 cm, 54 x 36 x 32 cm and 72 x 36 x 32 cm, and two finishes, unfinished or aged wood. It is sold individually as a flat-pack kit.
A shelf, bottle rack and door fit the crates, letting you add a shelf, store wine or close off a compartment. The Woodbox is for indoor use only.

Choosing the right wooden crates
First, plan the width and height of the arrangement you want. All three sizes are 36 cm high, so the tiers line up whichever width you choose. Two small 36 cm crates take up the same width as one large 72 cm crate.
Plan your accessories from the outset: a door to hide clutter, a shelf for small items, or a bottle rack for a wine cellar or kitchen corner. For a custom colour, choose the unfinished version and apply your own finish.
Assembly tips
Assembly: assemble each crate on a flat surface. If you plan to finish the unfinished version, apply the finish before fitting the accessories.
Arranging the crates: place them on a level floor and screw them together so they cannot slide. If you stack more than two tiers, or if children might climb on them, secure the top of the unit to the wall with a bracket.
Care and protection
Dust with a dry cloth. Protect the unfinished version with a wax, oil or varnish suitable for indoor wood, once or twice a year depending on use. The aged wood finish needs no special treatment.
Frequently asked questions
How do you make a shelving unit from wooden crates?
Stack or line up several Woodbox crates with their openings facing forwards, then screw the crates together to form a single unit. The three sizes work together: two small 36 cm crates span the same width as one large 72 cm crate. If you stack more than two tiers, secure the top of the unit to the wall.
Which size Woodbox crate should you choose?
The small size, measuring 36 x 36 x 32 cm, works as a storage cube or bedside unit. The medium, at 54 cm wide, and the large, at 72 cm wide, create wider compartments for books, baskets or crockery. Mixing sizes creates a less uniform arrangement with more of a handmade-furniture feel.
Which accessories can you add to a Woodbox crate?
Three accessories fit the crates: a shelf to add an extra level, a bottle rack for storing wine, and a door to close a crate and hide its contents. They are sold separately.
Unfinished or aged wood: which finish should you choose?
The unfinished option keeps the wood light and natural, ready to paint, wax or varnish. The aged wood option has a weathered look reminiscent of an old harvest crate, with no finish to apply.
Can a wooden crate be used outdoors?
No, Woodbox crates are designed for indoor use. The natural wood is not treated for outdoor use: rain will stain and warp it, and loosen the joints. If you use them on a covered terrace, bring them indoors for winter.
