Choosing your straight staircase wisely: a complete check-up
Making the right choice online is simpler than in a shop. You take your time, at home. You can easily check your measurements. A Woodup adviser can assist you. The criteria of use, design, height, and assembly are to be considered. To help you better, we have designed a five-step selection method.
1 - Technical criteria
This step must be the first. It is fundamental. Measure with precision (to the millimetre) the finished floor-to-floor height. It is this that determines the number of treads and the pitch, and therefore the footprint of the straight staircase. If in doubt, contact us. An adviser will assist you.
2 - Usage criteria
The type of use is closely linked to the technical criteria. Take the example of a secondary staircase. Its pitch can be slightly steeper than that of a main staircase. The wood can be fir. The absence of risers is possible. Consider your situation: main or secondary staircase?
3 - Aesthetic criteria
A staircase takes up space in an interior. Consequently, it is a strong decorative element. You can choose harmony and continuity of design. Or opt for contrast and a break. Think about what you want: a contemporary staircase or a traditional staircase?
4 - Assembly criteria
If you are looking for a kit staircase, you have the skills. However, check your supplier's reviews online. Are their staircases easy to assemble? Are they stable once installed? Before dispatch, our staircases are checked to guarantee a perfect fit.
5 - Safety criteria
A kit staircase purchased online must meet all safety criteria. Precise standards exist for tread dimensions (rise and going). They guarantee comfort of use. Others govern the manufacture of balustrades. Our staircases comply in every respect.

Woodup, expertise and reliability combined
A wooden or metal staircase is a means of access. It must therefore comply with standards, to be comfortable and safe. But it is also a piece of furniture. As such, its design, colours and finishes require particular attention. Only deep expertise achieves this delicate balance. Woodup manufactures robust, elegant and durable staircases.
Maintaining your straight staircase: our advice
A wooden or wood and metal staircase bears many loads. It also endures friction, tension, and indoor air pollution. To extend its lifespan and maintain its lustre, regular maintenance is necessary. Discover three tips used by the pros.
Products to favour and those to avoid
Almost all of our straight staircases have wooden treads. To maintain them, avoid harsh household cleaning products. Favour gentle soap-based cleaners. Limit the use of water. Prefer a dry cloth lightly dampened with a small amount of product.
The small everyday actions to apply
The best approach is always to dust the staircase as often as possible. Every day if it is a staircase heavily used by people wearing shoes. The reason is simple. Shoe soles deposit particles on the treads which, over time, create small scratches.
Repairing scratches and marks
Despite precautions, staircase treads sustain damage. The most common are scratches and marks. Solid wood has the advantage of being able to be renovated. The technique is sanding, along the grain. Consult our advice sheets.

Which wood species is best to choose for an eco staircase?
It all depends on your budget and the intensity of use of the staircase. Fir is economical, but not recommended for a main staircase. In that case, favour beech. It is a hard, light, slightly pinkish wood of intermediate quality.
Can you really install a wooden staircase on your own?
Woodup staircases are supplied as kits. Delivered in two parcels, they are designed to be installed by non-professionals. A pre-assembly option can be requested. We strongly advise having two people during installation.
What are the delivery times for your staircases?
For a staircase in stock, allow between 1 and 10 days for order preparation. Add a lead time of 3 to 4 days (delivery by our carrier to your home). Bespoke models require an additional lead time communicated before ordering.
Does the staircase need to be varnished before first use?
Any raw wooden Woodup staircase (fir, beech or oak) must be protected before first use. Varnishing is not the only option. Staircase-specific varnish is suitable. For an even more natural finish, you can choose hard oil.
Does Woodup truly offer bespoke staircases?
Yes. You can even download a dimension sheet to help you take measurements. We also offer a turnkey project plan drawing service. Our experts assist you in creating detailed and personalised plans.
