This solid pine handrail has a 70x40 mm oval profile and a 21x6 mm groove for fixing to wall brackets. Pine is a lightweight softwood (~500 kg/m³) with a light colour and straight grain; it is easy to work and paint. This handrail is available in 5 lengths: 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 cm, suitable for everything from small landings to full straight staircases.

The 70x40 mm oval profile provides a broad surface for the palm (70 mm) and a thickness (40 mm) that makes it easy to grip from the side. Pine is a soft wood and may become marked with heavy use. For a heavily used staircase, the oak, beech or ash versions offer better abrasion resistance. For indoor use only.

Installation advice

Choose brackets compatible with the 21x6 mm groove. For a 100 cm handrail, 2 brackets are sufficient – position them 15–20 cm from each end. Install the handrail 80 to 100 cm above the stair nosing or finished floor.

Pine is a soft wood – tighten the retaining screws gently to avoid marking the surface. If you need to cut it, pine is easy to saw. Sand the cut edge with 120-grit abrasive before applying the finish. If possible, apply your chosen finish before installation.

Care and protection

Unfinished pine must be treated before use. Its light colour and even surface readily accept all types of interior finish:

Interior wood paint: apply after a pore-sealing primer – ideal for matching the handrail to a colourful interior
Polyurethane varnish: 2 to 3 coats, good resistance to rubbing, lasts 4 to 6 years
Interior oil-wax finish: natural matt appearance; renew every 2 to 3 years

For routine cleaning, a slightly damp cloth is enough. As pine is a soft wood, marks may appear with heavy use. Light sanding with fine-grit abrasive followed by a fresh coat of finish will refresh the surface.
