Solid Fir Balustrade Kit 1m without Post – Interior DIY Module
This solid raw fir balustrade kit covers 1 metre of span for an assembled height of 1.02 m. With no post included, it is designed as an extension module or for configurations where posts are already in place — mezzanine corner, connection to a staircase, small 1 m landing. It is fully compatible with the WoodUp 2m kit + 1 post and the 2m kit without post.
The kit includes a 60x50 mm handrail, a 50x35 mm bottom rail, 6 x 50x20 mm balusters with integrated grooves and connecting dowels. The components are pre-measured and machined for assembly without specialist tools. The wood is delivered raw, untreated: it is advisable to apply a finish (oil, varnish or wood stain) before or after assembly to protect the fir from ambient moisture and knocks.

Installation advice
This kit is installed between two existing posts or between a post and a wall. The handrail and bottom rail rest against the posts or are fixed to them with dowels. Position the 6 balusters in the grooves of the bottom rail and handrail before final fixing. Maintain a maximum spacing of 11 cm between balusters.
To assemble a complete set over a 3 m span, combine for example this 1m kit with a 2m kit + 1 post. The sections are joined end to end with dowels for visual continuity with no visible joint. Use a spirit level to ensure the handrail is horizontal.
Maintenance and protection
Apply a protective finish before or after assembly: 2 to 3 coats of floor varnish for maximum scratch resistance, or a wax oil to be renewed every 2 years for a natural look. Raw untreated fir picks up dirt and marks quickly in high-traffic areas. Regular cleaning with soapy water is sufficient once the finish has been applied. Estimated lifespan: 15 years and more indoors in dry conditions with a suitable finish.
Frequently asked questions
How many posts are needed for a 1m balustrade kit?
This kit does not include a post. It is fitted between two posts already in place, or between a post and a wall. If you are starting from scratch over a 1 m span, order a straight fir post 60x60mm H 1.2m for the free end. The other end can be anchored to an existing post, a wall or a staircase stringer.
Is this 1m kit compatible with the 2m fir kit?
Yes, the handrail and bottom rail sections are identical (60x50 mm and 50x35 mm). They are joined end to end with wood dowels or metal brackets. Visual continuity is ensured if the pieces come from the same batch (natural colour variation between batches is possible).
Can the fir be painted white for a contemporary finish?
Yes. Raw fir accepts interior wood paint well after light sanding with 150-grit paper. Apply a bonding primer, then 2 coats of satin or matt paint. For a lasting white finish, choose a chip-resistant alkyd or acrylic paint. The result is clean and uniform on fine-grained fir.
What is the maximum spacing between balusters to comply with the standards?
The NF P01-012 standard for landing balustrades requires a maximum spacing of 11 cm between vertical balusters. This kit with 6 balusters per 1 m complies with this requirement. If you cut the handrail for a shorter span, recalculate the number of balusters needed to maintain this spacing.
