This straight post in unfinished solid fir is 120 cm high with a 60 × 60 mm square section. Designed as a vertical post for an indoor balustrade, it pairs directly with handrails, bottom rails and spindles from the WoodUp range. Sold individually, it lets you build a bespoke balustrade or complete an existing kit. A balustrade is also known as a guardrail.

Planed, unfinished fir has a clean, lightly textured surface ready for a finish (paint, oil, wood stain or varnish). Its 60 × 60 mm section matches the standard format of WoodUp fir balustrade kits, making it directly compatible with the range’s 60 × 50 mm handrails and 50 × 35 mm bottom rails. In dry indoor conditions, a protective finish is sufficient to provide a service life of 15 years or more. For installation outdoors under cover, choose an exterior wood stain or oil and renew the treatment every 2 to 3 years.

Installation advice

Positioning: Space posts no more than 1.5 m apart to ensure the balustrade meets stability requirements. For a 2 m span, one post at the free end and one intermediate post are sufficient if the other end is anchored to a wall. For spans of 3 m or more, allow for a post every 1.5 m.

Floor fixing: This post is secured using floor mounting plates (not included). Choose galvanised or stainless steel plates for maximum durability. On concrete: Ø 8 mm expansion anchors. On a timber floor: long Ø 5 mm wood screws (≥ 60 mm). Check that the post is plumb with a spirit level before fully tightening the fixings.

Assembly: Depending on the configuration, the handrail and bottom rail rest against or fit into the post. For a neat result, pre-drill the joints before screwing them together. If using varnish or paint, apply your chosen finish before assembly – it is much easier to reach the concealed faces.

Care and protection

In dry indoor conditions, apply 2 to 3 coats of floor varnish or hardwax oil and clean with soapy water once or twice a year. Outdoors under cover, renew the exterior wood stain or oil every 2 to 3 years. Check the tightness of the mounting plates annually. Without treatment, fir darkens and deteriorates quickly when exposed to moisture.

Apply an exterior wood stain or water-repellent oil before installation and renew the treatment every 2 to 3 years. For demanding outdoor use (in damp or coastal areas), choose Douglas fir or pressure-treated pine instead.
