Straight Solid Wood Balustrade Baluster H 95cm Section 95x18mm – 4 Wood Species

This straight solid wood baluster is designed to form the vertical infill of a wooden balustrade or handrail. With a height of 95 cm and a section of 95x18 mm, it offers a more "panel" look than the classic 50mm spindle — each baluster is noticeably wider, which reduces the number of elements required and gives a more contemporary finish. It is available in four wood species: douglas, fir, pine or beech.

The 95x18 mm section fits into the 18x15 mm grooved bottom rails of the WoodUp range. The regulatory spacing between balusters must not exceed 11 cm according to standard NF P01-012 for landing balustrades. Over 2 metres in length, allow approximately 9 to 10 balusters of 95 mm with 11 cm spacing. All wood species are supplied rough, untreated.

Key points

  • Wide 95mm baluster — more "panel" look, fewer elements than a classic spindle
  • Spacing ≤ 11cm — balustrade standards met in standard configuration
  • 4 wood species — economical fir, douglas for outdoors, fine-grained beech for indoors
  • Section 95x18mm — compatible with grooved bottom rails 18mm WoodUp range
  • Sold individually — for complete assembly or replacement

Installation advice

Baluster calculation: To calculate the number of balusters needed for your span, apply the formula: total length ÷ (baluster width + max spacing) = 95 + 110 = 205mm per baluster. Over 2 metres: 2000 ÷ 205 ≈ 9 balusters. Check the actual spacing before fixing: (2000 − 9x95) ÷ 10 spaces = 114.5mm — slightly above 11 cm. Adjust to 10 balusters to remain compliant: (2000 − 10x95) ÷ 11 = 104mm. Rounded, compliant.

Fitting: Insert the balusters into the groove of the bottom rail. Distribute the spacing evenly along the full length before fixing the handrail. For configurations without a groove, fix by side screwing or hidden brackets. Pre-drill to Ø3mm before screwing to avoid splitting the wood across its width.

Maintenance and protection

Apply a finish before fitting to cover all faces easily. Indoors, use a wood hardener or oil-wax. Outdoors, douglas only with a saturating oil to be renewed every 2 years. Avoid fir, pine and beech outdoors exposed to bad weather without regular intensive treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How many 95mm balusters are needed for 2 metres of balustrade at 11cm spacing?

With a spacing of 110mm and a width of 95mm, each baluster + space = 205mm. Over 2000mm: 2000 ÷ 205 ≈ 9.7 → rounded to 10 balusters for an actual spacing of 104mm (compliant ≤ 11cm). Always check the calculation against your actual length — end rails and post thicknesses may slightly alter the usable length.

What is the difference between the straight baluster (Straight baluster 95cm) and the straight spindle?

The straight baluster is 95mm wide, the spindle 50mm. The visual result is different: the baluster gives a more "cladding" style balustrade, with larger gaps between wide elements; the spindle gives the classic bar appearance. Same height (95cm), same thickness (18mm), same available wood species, same groove compatibility. The choice is purely aesthetic.

Can straight balusters and spindles be mixed in the same balustrade?

Technically yes, provided both fit into the same groove (18mm depth) and the total spacing between each element remains ≤ 11cm. In practice, mixing sections creates an uneven look. For a deliberate decorative effect (rhythm, alternation), it is perfectly achievable — simply check spacing compliance at each point.

Can straight balusters be cut down if the 95cm height is too tall?

Yes. All four wood species can be easily cut with a saw. If you reduce the height, keep the machined face (smooth face) at the top and cut from the bottom. Sand the cut edge with 120-grit sandpaper before applying the finish. If you reduce by more than 5 cm, check that the baluster still fits correctly in the groove of the bottom rail (minimum 15mm depth required).
