Glued Laminated Beech Balustrade Kit 1m + 1 Post – Interior Balustrade for Self-Assembly

This balustrade kit in glued laminated beech covers a span of 1 metre with a finished height of 1 metre, compliant with standard NF P01-012 for interior landing balustrades. It is supplied with a single post, making it suitable for configurations where one end is anchored to a wall, a stair stringer or an existing balustrade. It is the common solution for mezzanine corners, staircase starts or small 1-metre landings.

Glued laminated beech has a homogeneous surface and characteristic fine grain, easy to paint, oil or varnish. Its cross-laminated construction gives it better dimensional stability than solid beech, which limits shrinkage in indoor conditions. The kit is delivered raw, untreated: apply a protective finish before use to protect the wood from contact and ambient moisture.

The contents include all infill and structural elements, with the exception of the floor fixing screws — not supplied as they depend on the substrate material (concrete, timber, tiles). Post brackets are included in the kit.

Key points

  • Regulatory height 1m — compliant with NF P01-012 for interior landings and mezzanines
  • Glued laminated beech — dimensional stability superior to solid wood, homogeneous fine-grain surface
  • Near-complete kit — floor brackets included, only floor fixings need to be sourced separately
  • Baluster spacing ≤ 11 cm — balustrade standard met, suitable where children are present
  • Single post — ideal when the other end rests against a wall or existing stringer
  • Extendable — compatible with the 2m kits in the WoodUp beech range

Installation tips

Preparation: Check that the installation surface is dry, level and structurally sound. The post supplied with this kit measures 107 cm in height with a section of 70x70 mm — allow sufficient clearance at the base of the post for the fixing bracket. You will need a drill, a spirit level and a screwdriver.

Assembly: Assemble the balustrade flat before placing it upright. First fit the bottom rail, insert the balusters, then fix the handrail. Check that the spacing between balusters does not exceed 11 cm along the entire length. Then fix the post using the bracket supplied, checking the vertical alignment with a spirit level before final tightening.

Floor fixing: Choose the fixings according to the substrate. On concrete: expansion anchors Ø8 mm minimum. On timber floor: long wood screws Ø5 mm (≥ 60 mm). On tiles: drill with a special ceramic bit then use a nylon wall plug. The floor fixing screws are not supplied — plan this purchase before installation day.

Finish: Apply a protective finish after assembly: varnish (2–3 coats) for high-traffic areas, oil-wax for a natural matt look. Raw glued laminated beech also accepts white paint or tinted stain very well.

Maintenance and protection

Glued laminated beech in dry indoor use is a stable and low-maintenance wood once protected. Without a finish, it stains and reacts to ambient humidity. After applying a varnish or oil-wax, cleaning with soapy water twice a year is sufficient. Apply a light coat of varnish every 5 to 7 years depending on the level of traffic. Check the tightness of the fixings once a year. Never expose this product outdoors or to repeated condensation — glued laminated wood delaminates with prolonged moisture.

Frequently asked questions

Is this 1m + 1 post kit compatible with the WoodUp 2m beech kit?

Yes. The handrail sections (50x50 mm) and bottom rail sections (50x35 mm) are identical throughout the WoodUp beech range. Both kits are joined end to end with wooden dowels or metal brackets. The joint is invisible if the pieces come from the same range. For a 3 m span, combine this 1m kit with a 2m + 1 post kit (Beech balustrade kit 2m + 2 posts or 900).

Why does the kit include only one post?

This model is designed for configurations where one end of the balustrade rests against a wall, a stair stringer or an existing post. If you need two posts — for a free span without a lateral support — choose the 1m + 2 posts kit Beech balustrade kit 1m + 2 posts, which includes both posts and their brackets.

What fixings should I use for concrete floor installation?

Use expansion anchors Ø8 mm with stainless steel M6 or M8 screws. For standard quality concrete (C20/25), 4 fixing points per bracket are sufficient. On hollow concrete or lightweight slabs, use chemical anchors for better pull-out resistance. Stainless steel screws prevent rust marks on light-coloured floors.

Can glued laminated beech be painted white?

Yes, it is in fact one of the most requested finishes for this species. Sand lightly with 150 grit, apply a bonding primer, then two coats of satin or matt acrylic paint. The fine grain of beech gives a clean and even result. For a durable white in high-traffic areas, use an alkyd paint or a polyurethane lacquer.

Does this beech balustrade comply with the standards for a mezzanine?

Yes. The height of 1 metre complies with French regulations for landing balustrades (NF P01-012 article 4). The spacing between balusters meets the limit of 11 cm maximum. For a mezzanine with children, also check that there is no foothold that could allow climbing (bottom rail at foot level).
