Ellipsis Single Anodised Aluminium Post — Pre-Assembled with Rail Supports and Floor-Fixing Shoe

This single post from the Ellipsis range is a structural component made of anodised aluminium, designed to extend or customise an existing Ellipsis balustrade. It comes pre-assembled: the rail supports, handrail support and floor-fixing shoe are already fitted to the post, so it can be fixed directly to the floor without prior assembly. It includes 5 round-rail supports, a Ø50 mm handrail support and its floor-fixing shoe.

This post is mainly used in two situations: adding an intermediate post to a long span to improve overall rigidity, or building a balustrade entirely from individual components by combining separately ordered posts, rails and a handrail. Available in gloss black and polished stainless steel to match the rest of an Ellipsis installation.

Installation tips

Fix the shoe to the floor with fixings suitable for the surface (not included) before inserting the rails. Check that the post is vertical in both directions with a spirit level before fully tightening the shoe. Then insert the Ø16 mm rails into the 5 supports and fit the handrail into the Ø50 mm support. If adding this post midway along an existing span, join the rails along their length using Ellipsis Ø16 mm rail connectors on both sides of the post.

Care and protection

Clean with soapy water once a year. Check the tightness of the floor-fixing shoe and rail supports annually — outdoor temperature changes can slightly loosen screwed connections. In coastal areas, rinse with fresh water after exposure to salt spray.

Before you buy: this single post comes pre-assembled with integrated rail supports — it cannot be used with rails from the QUADRUM range. Check that the finish ordered (matt black or brushed stainless steel) exactly matches your existing ELLIPSIS balustrade: the two finishes do not match visually. This post is added to an existing installation — on its own, it cannot form a functional balustrade without a starter kit.

Can this single post replace a post from an Ellipsis starter or extension kit?

Yes. The single Ellipsis post has the same dimensions as the posts in the starter and extension kits. It can replace a damaged post or serve as an additional intermediate post on a long span. The finish must match that of the existing kit (gloss black or polished stainless steel) for a consistent appearance.

How far apart should Ellipsis posts be placed?

The Ellipsis system is designed around 100 cm extension-kit modules and a 120 cm starter-kit module. If adding an intermediate post, place it in the middle of the relevant span. For a 200 cm span without an intermediate post, rigidity is sufficient if the two end posts are properly fixed. For spans over 200 cm without an intermediate post, adding one is recommended to limit rail deflection under lateral load.

Can the floor-fixing shoe be used for side fixing to a beam?

The supplied shoe is designed for standard floor fixing to a slab or floorboards. For side fixing to a beam, stair stringer or wall, a specific side-fixing plate is required; it is not included with this product. Contact WoodUp to check the fixing options available for your layout.

How many individual posts are needed to build a 3 m balustrade from scratch?

To build a 3 m balustrade entirely from individual components, you need at least 4 posts: one at each end and two intermediate posts (spaced approximately 1 m apart). Then add round Ø16 mm rails of a suitable length, the handrail and connectors to join the rails. This made-to-measure approach is more complex than using kits and is suitable for unusual layouts where standard kits do not fit.

Is this Ellipsis post suitable for an outdoor balustrade?

Yes, anodised aluminium is suitable for outdoor exposure without additional treatment. The Ellipsis post is designed for indoor and outdoor use. The floor-fixing shoe is made of aluminium: check that the fixing screws are suitable for your surface (stainless steel is recommended in coastal areas). Under normal conditions, no special maintenance is needed beyond occasional rinsing.
