Connector for alu rails diam 16 mm
Connector for round rails Ø16mm – Ellipsis range. Anodised aluminium. Straight junction between two round rails Ø16mm end-to-end or on an intermediate inline post. Finishes: gloss black or gloss stainless steel. Compatible only with Ø16mm rails from the WoodUp Ellipsis range – not compatible with 16x16mm square rails from the Quadrum range. Minimal maintenance: anodised aluminium requires no treatment. Indoor and outdoor use. Sold individually. Fixings included.
Connector for Ø16mm Aluminium Rails – Straight Joint Ellipsis Range
This connector for Ø16mm round rails provides a straight-line joint between two rail sections in an Ellipsis range balustrade. It is used at each joint between modules (between a starter kit and an extension kit, or between two extension kits) to assemble the 5 horizontal rails in continuity. Available in gloss black and gloss stainless steel finishes, it maintains the visual consistency of the whole installation.
Sold individually, it should be ordered in batches of 5 per joint – one connector per rail. For joints with a change of direction, use the articulated rail fitting instead of this straight connector.

Key points
- ✓ Straight joint – for inline connections between Ellipsis modules
- ✓ Ø16mm Ellipsis compatible – exact dimensions of WoodUp round rails
- ✓ 5 connectors per joint – one per horizontal rail
- ✓ Consistent finishes – gloss black or gloss stainless steel
- ✓ For angles: use Ø16mm Ellipsis articulated rail fitting – articulated fitting instead of this straight connector
Installation advice
Order 5 connectors per straight joint between modules. Insert each rail end into the connector and tighten according to the manufacturer's instructions. For a perfectly aligned joint, begin by inserting all the rails into their connectors without tightening, check the horizontal alignment along the entire length, then tighten progressively post by post.
Maintenance and protection
Anodised aluminium requires no protective treatment. Anodisation forms an oxide layer integrated into the metal: it resists corrosion, UV rays, and temperature variations without any special maintenance.
To maintain the appearance of the connectors, an occasional wipe with a damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid abrasive products or acid cleaners that could dull the anodised surface. In exposed outdoor environments (coastal, polluted urban areas), rinsing with clean water once a year is sufficient.
No repassivation or surface touch-up is required over the normal service life of the balustrade.
WoodUp tip
What to know before buying: this connector is reserved for Ø16mm round rails in the ELLIPSIS range — do not use with 16x16mm square rails in the QUADRUM range. It is essential at every straight-line joint between two rail sections. For changes of direction, use the articulated fitting (ID 781). Plan for as many connectors as there are joints per rail and per connected module.
Frequently asked questions
How many rail connectors are needed to join 3 Ellipsis modules?
3 modules (1 starter kit + 2 extension kits) include 2 joints – therefore 10 rail connectors (5 per joint) and 2 handrail connectors Ellipsis handrail connector are needed. Remember to order all these accessories at the same time as the kits to avoid construction delays.
Can this connector be used mid-length on a rail to extend it?
Yes, technically. If a rail is too short to reach the next post, a connector can join two sections side by side. However, this is not the standard configuration – ensure the connector is properly positioned on a support or post to avoid bending mid-span on the rail.
What is the difference between the straight Ø16mm Ellipsis rail connector and the articulated fitting?
The Ø16mm Ellipsis rail connector provides a straight-line joint (180° angle). The articulated fitting allows a variable angle for changes of direction. For a straight-line installation, use the Ø16mm Ellipsis rail connector. For any angle other than 180°, use the Ø16mm Ellipsis articulated rail fitting.
Is this connector visible once the rails are in place?
The connector is visible between the two rail sections. In gloss black or gloss stainless steel, it integrates naturally into the rail line. To minimise visibility, position the joint at a post rather than mid-span – the support naturally frames the assembly.
Does this straight connector work for a rail in a corner?
No. For an angle (change of direction), use the articulated rail fitting. This connector is exclusively designed for straight-line joints (180° angle). A straight connector used at an angle would bend the rails and damage the post supports.
