CHEVALARD Straight Staircase – Laminated Beech or Fir, 280 cm, 14 Treads

The CHEVALARD straight staircase is available in laminated beech or fir and is supplied as a kit for on-site assembly. Its floor-to-floor height is 280 cm with 14 treads, a width of 80 cm and a floor footprint of 259 cm. The treads measure 210x30 mm, with a 19 cm tread depth and a 20 cm riser height. This model belongs to the Standard range.

The choice between the two wood species depends on your budget, how the staircase will be used and the look you want. Laminated beech is denser, more resistant to wear and more dimensionally stable – recommended for heavy daily use. Fir is lighter, more economical and easier to work with – suitable for moderate use or a painted finish. Both versions are supplied unfinished and need a finish before use.

The CHEVALARD staircase is supplied as a kit. It includes three types of package, depending on the configuration ordered:

Installation advice

Check the floor-to-floor height (280 cm) and available floor space (at least 259 cm) before unpacking the kit. These measurements are taken from finished floor and ceiling surfaces, including coverings. For the stairwell opening, allow 2 to 5 cm of clearance beyond the footprint and width to make assembly and vertical alignment easier.

Assemble the stringers, treads and risers according to the supplied instructions. The stringer package is 3920 mm long – ensure there is sufficient access and clearance in the room before delivery. Securely fix the staircase to the floor and upper support using fixings suitable for the support material. At least two people are needed to position the stringers. The handrail can be fitted after the staircase is assembled, on either the right or left.

Care and protection

Recommended initial finish: both wood species are supplied unfinished. Apply a protective finish before first use:

• ✓ Beech: 2–3 coats of water-based polyurethane stair varnish for maximum wear resistance (renew every 5–7 years)
• ✓ Fir: hardwax oil for a natural look, or floor varnish for greater protection

Routine cleaning: use a slightly damp cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner. Check the fixings are tight annually.

WoodUp advice

If you are choosing between fir and beech, the deciding factor is how heavily the staircase will be used. For a main staircase used daily by the whole family, laminated beech is the better choice: its greater density makes it more resistant to footmarks and knocks. Fir is entirely suitable for access to a mezzanine or a secondary staircase with limited foot traffic.

Before you buy: the handrail is not included in the standard version – order it separately from our staircase accessories. You must choose whether to have risers when ordering; this cannot be changed after delivery because the stringers are notched differently for each configuration.
