Straight Staircase in Glulam Oak – 14 Steps 80 cm Without Handrail
This straight glulam oak staircase is designed for residential interior fittings. With a width of 80 cm, a floor footprint of 259 cm and a floor-to-floor height of 280 cm for 14 steps, it covers standard configurations in renovation as well as new construction. The steps have a section of 210×30 mm, a going of 19 cm and a step height of 20 cm. This model belongs to the Standard range.
It is supplied without a handrail: if protection for the ascent is required, the handrail must be ordered separately and installed at the same time as assembly. Adding a handrail after full assembly is not compatible with the structure. The glulam oak is supplied unfinished; a protective finish must be applied before first use. Available with or without risers.

Key points
✓ Precise dimensions: footprint 259 cm, going 19 cm, step height 20 cm
✓ Glulam oak: dimensional stability superior to solid wood, good surface wear resistance
✓ Riser option: closed or open staircase, same mechanical structure
✓ Handrail not included: to be ordered and installed simultaneously – integration after assembly not possible
✓ Finish required before use: bare oak marks quickly without protection
✓ Indoor use only
Installation advice
Preparation: Check the floor-to-floor height and the stairwell opening before unpacking the kit. The footprint of 259 cm must correspond to the available space in the direction of ascent. Glulam oak is a dense wood: two people are required for handling and positioning the stringers.
Screws: Always pre-drill before screwing into oak. This dense wood splits easily under a screw inserted without a pilot hole, particularly on the edges of the steps.
Finish: Apply the protective finish preferably before installation to easily reach the hidden faces (undersides of steps, inner faces of stringers). On bare oak, allow 2 to 3 coats of floor varnish for lasting protection.
Maintenance and protection
Glulam oak is supplied untreated. A finish is essential before first use.
- Aqua-polyurethane floor varnish: maximum protection, 2 to 3 coats, renewal every 5 to 7 years
- Oil-wax: natural finish enhancing the oak grain, annual renewal
- Polyurethane varnish: gloss, impact resistance
Routine cleaning: slightly damp cloth, pH-neutral product. Maintain a stable humidity level (45 to 65%) to limit wood movement.
Frequently asked questions
Can a handrail be added to the FONTBRUNO oak staircase?
The handrail must be ordered separately. If you would like a handrail, please consult the compatible PUECH OAK range before placing your order.
What is the difference between the staircase with and without risers?
With risers, the staircase is closed: the vertical faces between the steps are clad, which reinforces visual rigidity. Without risers, the staircase is open, visually lighter and allowing light to pass through. Both versions offer the same mechanical resistance and the same dimensions.
What finish should be applied to a bare oak staircase?
For a main staircase with heavy traffic, an aqua-polyurethane floor varnish in 2 to 3 coats is the most durable solution (renewal every 5 to 7 years). For a natural finish that enhances the oak grain, an oil-wax is suitable with annual renewal. In all cases, apply the finish before first use.
Is glulam oak more stable than solid oak?
Yes. Glulam offers better dimensional stability in the face of humidity variations. The laminations are glued in alternating directions, which compensates for the natural movement of the wood and reduces the risk of deformation over the long term.
Is this staircase compatible with an 80 cm wide stairwell opening?
The staircase width is 80 cm excluding the handrail. The stairwell opening must accommodate this footprint plus any assembly tolerances and finishes. A dimensioned drawing is available to download on the product page to check compatibility before ordering.
Why choose oak rather than beech for the steps?
Glulam oak and glulam beech are comparable in density and mechanical resistance. Oak has a more pronounced grain and a naturally warmer tone; beech has a more uniform grain and a light, slightly pinkish tone. The choice depends on the desired aesthetic and consistency with the other woodwork in the interior.
