This glued-laminated beech balustrade kit covers a 2-metre span (usable component length: 193 cm) and has a finished height of 1 metre, meeting the NF P01-012 standard for indoor landing balustrades. Supplied with just one post, it is designed for layouts where one end is anchored to a wall or existing support – such as the wall side of a staircase, a mezzanine corner or a connection to another module. A balustrade is also known as a guardrail.

Glued-laminated beech is chosen for its dimensional stability indoors and its uniform, fine-grained surface – a wood equally suited to white paint, clear varnish or hardwax oil. The kit includes 10 spindles with a 65x20 mm section, a 50x50 mm handrail measuring 193 cm, a 50x35 mm bottom rail measuring 193 cm, a 70x70 mm post, 107 cm high with its floor bracket, and assembly fixings. Floor-fixing screws are not supplied.

Beech range: this kit belongs to the glued-laminated beech balustrade range (70 x 70 mm post, 50 x 50 mm handrail, 65 x 20 mm spindles). It cannot be combined with fir balustrade kits, which have different dimensions (60 x 60 mm post, 60 x 50 mm handrail, 50 x 20 mm spindles). Use the same range throughout the installation.

Installation tips

Preparation: The components in this kit have a usable length of 193 cm for a stated span of 2 m – the difference allows for insertion into the posts or wall connections. Check your measurements before starting: measure the available space and confirm that a 193 cm bottom rail will fit your layout.

Assembly: Assemble the balustrade flat. Lay out the bottom rail, insert the 10 spindles with even spacing (≤ 11 cm), then attach the handrail. Position the post at the unsupported end and secure it using the included bracket. Secure the other end (at the wall or stair stringer) with metal angle brackets or wall plates, depending on the layout. Check that everything is plumb and level with a spirit level before fully tightening.

Can be cut to length: If your span is less than 193 cm, the handrail and bottom rail can be cut with a saw. Recalculate the number of spindles needed to maintain spacing of ≤ 11 cm along the shorter length.

Finishing: Apply varnish, hardwax oil or paint before use. For an even finish on every face, coat hard-to-reach areas, particularly between the spindles, before final assembly.

Care and protection

Glued-laminated beech is stable in dry indoor conditions but is susceptible to stains and moisture if left unprotected. With varnish (2–3 coats), maintenance is limited to cleaning with soapy water. Apply a light refresher coat every 5 to 7 years, depending on the amount of foot traffic. With hardwax oil, plan to reapply it every 1 to 2 years. Check the tightness of the floor-fixing screws and post connections annually.
