Glued Laminated Beech Balustrade Kit 2m + 1 Post - Interior Balustrade 1m Height
This balustrade kit in glued laminated beech covers a span of 2 metres (usable element length: 193 cm) for a finished height of 1 metre, compliant with interior landing balustrade standard NF P01-012. Supplied with a single post, it is designed for configurations where one end is anchored to a wall or existing support — staircase start at the wall side, mezzanine corner, or connection to another module.
Glued laminated beech is chosen for its dimensional stability indoors and its smooth, fine-grained surface — a timber that lends itself equally to white paint, natural varnish, or oil-wax finish. The kit includes 10 spindles section 65x20 mm, a 50x50 mm handrail of 193 cm, a 50x35 mm bottom rail of 193 cm, the 70x70 mm post height 107 cm with its floor bracket, and the assembly fixings. Installation advice
Preparation: The elements in this kit measure 193 cm usable length for an stated span of 2 m — the difference corresponds to the recesses in the posts or wall connections. Check your dimensions before starting: measure the available space and confirm that 193 cm of bottom rail fits within your configuration.
Assembly: Assemble the balustrade flat. Place the bottom rail, insert the 10 spindles distributing the spaces evenly (≤ 11 cm), then fix the handrail. Position the post on the free side and secure it using the included bracket. The other end (wall or stringer side) is fixed with metal brackets or wall plates depending on the configuration. Check vertical and horizontal alignment with a spirit level before final tightening.
Cutting down possible: If your span is less than 193 cm, the handrail and bottom rail can be cut down with a saw. Recalculate the number of spindles needed to maintain a spacing of ≤ 11 cm over the reduced length.
Finishing: Apply varnish, oil-wax, or paint before putting into service. For a uniform result on all faces, finish before final assembly on hard-to-reach components (between spindles in particular).
Maintenance and protection
Glued laminated beech is a stable wood for dry indoor use, but susceptible to stains and moisture without protection. With a varnish (2–3 coats), maintenance is limited to cleaning with soapy water. Apply a light coat every 5 to 7 years depending on foot traffic intensity. With an oil-wax finish, plan for reapplication every 1 to 2 years. Check annually that the floor fixing screws and post connections are tight.
WoodUp Tip
What to know before buying: this kit covers a span of 2 metres (usable length 193 cm) with a single post — suitable for configurations where one end rests against a wall. If both ends are free, choose the 2m + 2 posts kit (ID 34). The finished height of 1 metre complies with NF P01-012. Treat all components before assembly — grooves and recessed faces will be inaccessible once the kit is assembled. Provide floor fixing plates appropriate for your type of substrate.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the usable length 193 cm and not 200 cm?
The 193 cm corresponds to the effective length of the rails (handrail and bottom rail), after deducting the recesses in the posts and wall connections. The span covered is indeed 2 metres once the kit is in place with its supports. This is standard practice in the design of pre-machined balustrade kits.
Is this 2m + 1 post kit different from the 2m + 2 posts kit Beech balustrade kit 2m + 2 posts?
Yes. The Beech balustrade kit 2m + 2 posts includes 2 posts and is self-supporting (freestanding, no wall required). This Beech balustrade kit 2m + 1 post has only one post: it is designed for configurations where one end is anchored to a wall or stringer. If you have no lateral support available, choose the Beech balustrade kit 2m + 2 posts.
Can two 2m kits be combined to cover a 4m span?
Yes. Two 2m + 1 post kits Beech balustrade kit 2m + 1 post cover 4 m with an intermediate post at the junction and a post at each free end. The junction between the two sections is made using dowels or metal brackets. The spacing between posts must not exceed 1.5 m maximum to ensure the rigidity of the assembly.
Can the handrail be cut down if the space is less than 193 cm?
Yes. Fir and glued laminated beech can easily be cut down with a circular saw or jigsaw. Mark the cut carefully with a square, saw perpendicularly and sand the edge to obtain a clean face. Recalculate the number of spindles needed to maintain a spacing of ≤ 11 cm over the reduced length.
Does this beech balustrade withstand the humidity of a bathroom?
No. Glued laminated beech is not suitable for humid environments or areas with heavy condensation (bathroom, unheated conservatory). In humid conditions, the laminations gradually delaminate. For use in a damp room, consult WoodUp for alternatives in suitable materials (anodised aluminium, stainless steel).
