Glued Laminated Beech Balustrade Kit 1m + 2 Posts - Freestanding Indoor Kit

This balustrade kit in glued laminated beech covers 1 metre of span for a finished height of 1 metre. Its distinguishing feature compared to the 1m + 1 post kit Beech balustrade kit 1m + 1 post: it is supplied with two posts, making it completely freestanding - no wall support or existing stringer is required. It can be installed on its own, in the middle of a landing, at the edge of an open mezzanine or at the end of an indoor terrace.

Glued laminated beech offers a smooth, fine-grained surface with a natural pinkish-white tone, easy to personalise with paint, stain or oil-wax. Its cross-laminated construction limits distortion caused by indoor humidity variations. All kit components are pre-measured and ready to assemble, with post brackets included. Only the floor fixing screws need to be sourced separately, depending on the type of substrate.

  • Modular - pairs with the 2m beech kits in the range to cover larger spans

Installation advice

Layout: This kit rests on two posts, both of which must be fixed to the floor. Mark the balustrade axis on the floor and indicate the position of the two posts with a pencil. Check that the spacing corresponds to the usable length of the bottom rail before drilling. A marking error at this stage is difficult to correct once the holes have been drilled.

Assembly: Assemble the balustrade flat before standing it upright. Lay the bottom rail, insert the spindles checking the spacing (≤ 11 cm), then fix the handrail. Slide in the post brackets and plug the assembly. Stand the assembled balustrade upright, level it with a spirit level, and fix the brackets to the floor with screws suited to your substrate.

Connection to an adjacent kit: If you are pairing this kit with a 2m kit, connect the handrails end to end using metal brackets or long bolts passing through both sections. Lightly sand the junction joint to remove any visible step.

Maintenance and protection

Apply a protective finish before first use. Raw glued laminated beech stains easily on contact with hands in high-traffic areas. A staircase varnish in 2–3 coats provides maximum resistance for a frequently used mezzanine. Oil-wax is suitable for less heavily used spaces and should be renewed every 1 to 2 years. Routine cleaning with soapy water, without abrasives or chlorine-based products. Check the tightness of the floor fixing screws once a year.

WoodUp tip

Important before purchasing: this kit differs from the 1m + 1 post kit (ID 274) by the inclusion of 2 posts instead of one — it is designed for configurations where neither end rests against a wall. Check your configuration before choosing between the two models. Glued laminated beech requires a protective finish before installation. Apply it to all components, including recessed areas, for uniform and lasting protection.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the 1m + 1 post kit Beech balustrade kit 1m + 1 post and this 1m + 2 post kit?

The Beech balustrade kit 1m + 1 post includes only one post: the other end of the balustrade must rest against an existing wall or stringer. This Beech balustrade kit 1m + 2 posts is freestanding with its two posts: it can be installed freely in the middle of a landing, without any lateral support. If you have a wall on one side, choose the Beech balustrade kit 1m + 1 post. For a free-standing position without any support, choose this kit.

Can this 1m kit be used on its own to secure a 1m mezzanine?

Yes, this kit is freestanding and complete for a 1-metre opening. It is perfectly suited for small mezzanines, short stairwell openings or narrow passageways. For spans greater than 1m, combine it with a 2m kit (Beech balustrade kit 2m + 2 posts or 900) by connecting the handrails end to end.

How many spindles does this 1m kit contain, and what is the spacing?

The exact number of spindles depends on the usable length and complies with the regulatory spacing of 11 cm maximum between balusters. Over a 1-metre span, expect approximately 6 to 7 spindles with a 65x20 mm cross-section. The spacing is calculated at the factory to be compliant straight out of the box, with no adjustment required on your part.

Can the beech be left raw without any treatment?

Not recommended. Untreated raw beech used indoors absorbs dirt from hands, reacts to humidity variations and stains easily. Even a single coat of oil-wax is enough to stabilise it and make daily maintenance easier. Without a finish, the wood gradually darkens at contact areas and loses its characteristic pale appearance.

Can this 1m beech kit be combined with other kits to cover more than 2 metres?

Yes, WoodUp kits are designed to be assembled in line. For a 3-metre balustrade, combine for example a 2m + 1 post kit and a 1m kit without a post: the junction post is shared between the two modules. Make sure to align the spindles in continuity for a consistent finish. The handrails and bottom rails connect end to end using an internal reinforcing batten that is glued and screwed.
