Articulated Fitting for Ø16mm Aluminium Rails Ellipsis Range – Variable Angle

This articulated fitting connects two Ø16mm Ellipsis range round rails at a variable angle, for configurations where the balustrade changes direction. It is used at each angle of the balustrade, in combination with the Ellipsis articulated handrail fitting. Each balustrade angle requires 5 rail fittings (one per rail) and 1 handrail fitting. Available in gloss black and gloss stainless steel.

Key points

  • Variable angle – adapts without complex cutting of the rails
  • Ø16mm Ellipsis compatible – exact dimensions of WoodUp round rails
  • 5 fittings per angle – one per horizontal rail of the balustrade
  • To be combined with Ellipsis articulated handrail fitting – Ellipsis handrail fitting for the complete angle
  • Consistent finishes – gloss black or gloss stainless steel

Installation advice

Order this fitting in batches of 5 units per angle – one fitting per rail. Adjust the angle of each fitting before inserting onto the rails. Ensure all fittings are set to the same angle before tightening to guarantee rail alignment. Use the articulated handrail fitting simultaneously to handle the handrail joint at the same angle.

Maintenance and protection

The anodised aluminium of the articulated fittings requires no surface treatment. Anodisation integrates the protection directly into the metal: no paint, no varnish, no risk of flaking.

Cleaning with clean water and a soft cloth maintains the finish over time. The articulated parts do not require lubrication under normal indoor use conditions. Outdoors, visually check the tightness of the locking screws once a year to maintain the set angle.

Avoid abrasive products and strong solvents on anodised surfaces. In coastal environments exposed to salt spray, rinsing with fresh water after periods of heavy exposure extends the life of the finish.

WoodUp tip

What to know before buying: this articulated fitting is reserved for Ø16mm round rails in the ELLIPSIS range — do not use with 16x16mm square rails in the QUADRUM range (ID 808). It handles angular changes of direction; for straight-line joints, use the straight connector (ID 782). Plan for one articulated fitting per rail and per change of direction in your configuration. The clamping screws are included.

Frequently asked questions

How many articulated rail fittings are needed for a U-shaped balustrade (3 sides)?

A U-shaped balustrade has 2 angles – therefore 10 articulated rail fittings (5 per angle) and 2 articulated handrail fittings Ellipsis articulated handrail fitting are needed. Order in one go to guarantee consistency of finish across all fittings.

Is this fitting compatible with 16x16mm square rails in the Quadrum range?

No. This fitting is designed for Ø16mm round rails in the Ellipsis range. The 16x16mm square rails in the Quadrum range require the specific Quadrum articulated fittings 16x16mm Quadrum articulated rail fitting.

Can this fitting handle a 45° angle (diagonal)?

The angular travel of the articulated fitting covers common angles between 60° and 120°. For very acute angles (below 60°) or very obtuse angles (above 120°), contact WoodUp before ordering to validate compatibility with your exact configuration.

Do articulated rail fittings need to be ordered for all angles, even slight ones?

Yes, whenever the balustrade changes direction. Even for an angle of 170°, rigid aluminium rails cannot absorb the deviation without a fitting. The articulated fitting handles all non-zero angles. For a perfectly straight installation, use the straight Ø16mm Ellipsis rail connector instead.

Can this articulated rail fitting be used on a Quadrum balustrade?

No. This fitting is designed for Ø16mm round rails in the Ellipsis range. For 16x16mm square rails in the Quadrum range, use the specific Quadrum articulated fittings 16x16mm Quadrum articulated rail fitting. The two fittings have different internal dimensions and are not interchangeable.
