Adjustable Joint for Quadrum 16x16mm Square Rails – Variable Angle

This adjustable joint connects two 16x16mm square rails from the Quadrum range at a variable angle where the balustrade changes direction. Use it with the adjustable horizontal joint for the 80x30mm handrail, the Quadrum 80x30mm adjustable handrail joint. Together, they accommodate the corner across the full height of the balustrade. Each corner requires 5 rail joints (one per horizontal rail) and 1 handrail joint.

Available in gloss black and polished stainless steel finishes, this joint maintains a consistent look across the Quadrum installation. It is compatible only with 16x16mm square rails from the Quadrum range. It cannot be used with the Ellipsis range’s Ø16mm round rails, which require their own adjustable joints Ellipsis Ø16mm adjustable rail joint.

Installation tips

Order 5 joints per corner. Set each joint to the same angle before inserting the rails. Use a protractor or adjustable square to measure the exact angle of your layout. Insert the rail ends into the joints without tightening them, check that all the rails align across both sections of the balustrade, then tighten progressively, post by post. Always combine these with the Quadrum 80x30mm adjustable handrail joint for the same corner at the top of the balustrade.

Care and protection

Clean with soapy water. Check the adjustable mechanism is tight once a year: outdoor temperature changes can slightly loosen the screws that lock the angle. In coastal environments, rinse with fresh water to prevent salt deposits building up in the mechanism.

WoodUp tip

Before you buy: this joint is compatible only with 16x16mm square rails from the QUADRUM range. Do not use it with Ø16mm round rails from the ELLIPSIS range, which have a different section. Allow one joint for each rail at every change of direction. For straight joints between modules, use the straight connector. Clamping screws are included.

The two joints have different internal openings and cannot be interchanged, even though their nominal dimensions may seem similar.

How many joints should I order for a Quadrum balustrade with a 90° corner?

For a 90° corner: 5 adjustable joints for 16x16mm rails Quadrum 16x16mm adjustable rail joint + 1 adjustable horizontal joint for an 80x30mm handrail Quadrum 80x30mm adjustable handrail joint. Yes, for every corner. When the balustrade changes direction, the angle must be accommodated on all 5 rails and the handrail. If you order the rail joints without the handrail joint, you cannot complete the installation correctly. Always order both accessories for each corner.

Is this Quadrum adjustable rail joint suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, anodised aluminium is suitable for outdoor exposure without treatment. Check the screws that lock the adjustable joint once a year to maintain the set angle, particularly outdoors, where temperature changes can cause slight expansion. In coastal areas, rinsing with fresh water after periods of exposure to sea spray is sufficient.
