Fir Balustrade Kit 2m without Post – Handrail, Bottom Rail and 12 Spindles
This solid fir balustrade kit covers a 2-metre span with an assembled height of 1.02m. It differs from the 2m + 1 post kit in that it does not include a post: the infill components (handrail, bottom rail, 12 spindles) are supplied separately, allowing free positioning of posts according to the site configuration. Assembly requires neither mortises nor tenons — the grooves are machined directly into the pieces for simple spindle positioning.
It is a modular solution: it pairs with straight fir posts, 1m kits or other 2m kits to create balustrades of custom length. Supplied in rough untreated wood, to be finished as desired before or after assembly (oil, varnish, stain or paint).

Installation advice
Begin by positioning the posts (not included) every 1.5m maximum. Fix them with brackets suited to the support. Then slide the spindles into the grooves of the bottom rail, check the spacing (≤ 11 cm), then fit the handrail. Dowel the whole assembly following the instructions provided. For end-to-end connections between two kits, use metal brackets or long dowels for a rigid joint.
Apply the finish of your choice before or after assembly. Finishing before assembly makes it easier to reach hidden faces and gives a more even result.
Maintenance and protection
Rough fir requires a protective finish before use. Two to three coats of varnish offer the best resistance in high-traffic areas. Wax oil is suitable for less heavily used spaces and is easy to reapply. Clean with soapy water, without solvents. Check the condition of the dowels and joints once a year.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from the fir balustrade kit 2m + 1 post?
This 2m kit without post does not include a post: it is designed for situations where posts are already in place or ordered separately. The 2m + 1 post kit includes a 60x60mm H 1.2m post for complete installations. The infill components (handrail, bottom rail, spindles) are identical in both kits.
How many posts for a 4-metre balustrade?
For a 4m span with this kit (2 x 2m kits without post), plan for a minimum of 3 posts: one at each end and one intermediate post in the middle. If one end is fixed to a wall, 2 posts are sufficient. Space posts no more than 1.5m apart for regulatory stability.
Is this kit compatible with turned posts or square posts?
The handrail and bottom rail of this kit are designed for 60x60mm square posts from the WoodUp fir range. For turned posts or posts of a different section, check the compatibility of the connection grooves. Fir spare parts (straight posts, turned posts) are available separately on Woodup.
Can the handrail be cut to fit a span of less than 2m?
Yes, fir can be easily cut with a saw. If you reduce the length to less than 2m, remove the excess spindles and check that the spacing between the remaining spindles does not exceed 11 cm. Deduct the number of spindles to remove based on the final length: count 1 spindle approximately every 16cm over 2m.
Is this fir balustrade kit compliant with standards for a mezzanine balustrade?
Yes. The assembled height of 1.02m and the spacing between spindles (≤ 11cm) meet the requirements of standard NF P01-012 for indoor landing balustrades. For mezzanines with children, check that no intermediate horizontal rail makes climbing easier — this kit does not include one, which is compliant. The height of 1.02m also complies with article R111-15 of the French Construction Code for landing balustrades.
