Fir Balustrade Kit 2m without Post - Handrail, Bottom Rail and 12 Spindles
This solid fir balustrade kit covers a 2-metre span with an assembled height of 1.02 m. It differs from the 2m + 1 post kit by the absence of a post: the infill components (handrail, bottom rail, 12 spindles) are delivered separately, allowing free placement of posts according to the site configuration. Assembly requires neither mortises nor tenons – the rebates are machined directly into the pieces for simple spindle positioning.
It is a modular solution: it can be combined with straight fir posts, 1m kits or other 2m kits to create guardrails of a custom length. Delivered in raw untreated wood, to be finished to taste before or after assembly (oil, varnish, wood stain or paint).

Installation advice
Start by positioning the posts (not included) every 1.5 m maximum. Fix them with brackets suited to the substrate. Then slide the spindles into the rebates of the bottom rail, check the spacing (≤ 11 cm), then fit the handrail. Dowel the assembly following the instructions provided. For end-to-end joints between two kits, use metal brackets or long dowels for a rigid connection.
Apply the finish of your choice before or after assembly. Finishing before assembly makes it easier to reach hidden surfaces and gives a more uniform result.
Maintenance and protection
Raw fir requires a protective finish before use. Two to three coats of floor varnish offer the best resistance in high-traffic areas. Oil-wax is suitable for less demanding spaces and is easy to renew. Clean with soapy water, without solvent. Check the condition of the dowels and joints once a year.
WoodUp Tip
Important before purchasing: this kit has no post — the ends must be supported by existing posts or a wall. The integrated rebate assembly system simplifies installation but requires a precise order: insert the spindles into the bottom rail before fixing the handrail. Apply the finish before final assembly to reach all faces of the grooves. To cover a 3-metre span, combine this kit with a 1m kit without post (ID 22).
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from the fir balustrade kit 2m + 1 post?
This 2m kit without post does not include a post: it is designed for situations where posts are already in place or ordered separately. The 2m + 1 post kit includes a 60x60mm H 1.2m post for complete installations. The infill components (handrail, bottom rail, spindles) are identical in both kits.
How many posts are needed for a 4-metre balustrade?
For a 4 m span with this kit (2 x 2m kits without post), plan for a minimum of 3 posts: one at each end and one intermediate post in the middle. If one end is fixed to a wall, 2 posts are sufficient. Space the posts a maximum of 1.5 m apart for regulatory stability.
Is this kit compatible with turned posts or square posts?
The handrail and bottom rail of this kit are designed for 60x60 mm square posts from the WoodUp fir range. For turned posts or posts of a different section, check the compatibility of the connecting notches. Fir spare parts (straight posts, turned posts) are available separately on Woodup.
Can the handrail be cut to fit a span of less than 2m?
Yes, fir can easily be cut with a saw. If you reduce the length to less than 2 m, remove the excess spindles and check that the spacing between the remaining spindles does not exceed 11 cm. Calculate the number of spindles to remove based on the final length: count 1 spindle every ~16 cm over 2 m.
Is this fir balustrade kit compliant with the standards for a mezzanine guardrail?
Yes. The assembled height of 1.02m and the spindle spacing (≤ 11 cm) meet the requirements of standard NF P01-012 for indoor landing guardrails. For mezzanines with children, check that no intermediate horizontal rail makes climbing easier - this kit has none, which is compliant. The height of 1.02m also complies with article R111-15 of the Construction Code for landing guardrails.
