Custom-Made Wood Balustrade + Aluminium Rails and Wooden Base Panel – Secure Contemporary Design
This custom balustrade combines wooden posts (fir, beech or oak), a solid wooden base panel at the bottom and horizontal aluminium rails at the top. This semi-solid structure is designed for configurations where enhanced lower protection is desired — presence of animals, open mezzanines with risk of falling objects, or simply to visually define the base of the balustrade. The solid wooden base panel ensures opacity at the bottom of the balustrade, while the aluminium rails at the top maintain the visual lightness of the whole.
Configured to your exact dimensions via the WoodUp configurator, delivered as a self-assembly kit with instructions and fixings included. For indoor use only. Manufacturing lead time to be confirmed.

Installation advice
This model is more complex to install than simple infill models — the wooden base panel and aluminium rails are two separate systems to be assembled in order. Follow the supplied instructions carefully. Start with the posts, then fix the wooden base panel, and finish with the aluminium rails and handrail. Apply the wood finish before fitting the aluminium rails to avoid runs on the metal.
Maintenance and protection
Apply varnish or oil-wax to the wooden parts before use. The aluminium rails require no treatment — clean with soapy water. Check the tightness of fixings annually. Oak is recommended for rooms with slight moisture or thermal variations (glass roofs, entrance halls).
Frequently asked questions
What base panel height is this model available in?
The height of the wooden base panel is configurable to suit your needs at the time of ordering. It typically represents 1/3 to 1/2 of the total balustrade height (33 to 50 cm on a 1 m balustrade). For specific requirements (very high or very low base panel), contact WoodUp before finalising the configuration.
Is this balustrade suitable for a large dog?
Yes. The solid wooden base panel at the bottom prevents a large dog from poking its head through or leaning on the rails. For maximum safety with very active animals, ensure the base panel height exceeds the animal's withers height. A base panel of 40 to 50 cm is suitable for most large breeds.
What is the difference from the wood balustrade with metal rails and no base panel (custom wood balustrade with metal rails)?
The custom wood balustrade with metal rails has no base panel: the horizontal metal rails run the full height between the bottom rail and the handrail. This wood balustrade with aluminium rails + base panel adds a solid wooden base panel at the bottom — enhanced protection at the base of the balustrade, useful with animals or to visually define the base. Both are made to measure and available with wooden posts.
Are the aluminium rails treated against corrosion?
Yes. The aluminium rails are anodised — an in-depth surface treatment that provides lasting resistance to corrosion and light scratches. For indoor use, they require no particular maintenance beyond an annual clean with soapy water.
Is this model with a base panel heavier to install than a standard balustrade?
The total weight is indeed higher than a balustrade without a base panel, but installation requires no more effort — the parts are pre-cut and the instructions guide you through each step. Allow for two people to hold the wooden base panel while screwing in the posts, then one person for the aluminium rails and handrail. The main challenge is ensuring perfect alignment between the wooden base panel and the aluminium rails — a spirit level is essential.
