This bespoke balustrade combines wooden posts (fir, beech or oak of your choice) with an infill of horizontal metal rails. The result is a two-material balustrade with a clean contemporary design, blending the warmth of natural wood with the visual lightness of metal. It is configured to your exact dimensions via the WoodUp online configurator, then delivered as a self-assembly kit with instructions and fixings.
This model is particularly suited to contemporary interiors — lofts, modern homes, open mezzanines — where transparency of the infill is desired to preserve the light in the space. Delivery is made directly to your home. Installation is accessible to an experienced DIYer with a drill, a spirit level and a screwdriver. The production lead time is to be confirmed with WoodUp as this product is made to order.

Before ordering, measure the length of your span and the location of the fixing points (floor and, if applicable, wall) precisely. This balustrade is delivered pre-cut to the ordered dimensions — any measurement error will require a new production run. Also check the height of your space: the standard height of 1 metre complies for landings, but a mezzanine with children may require a greater height depending on the configuration.
Installation follows the standard sequence: fix the posts to the floor with the supplied fixings, then fit the metal rails into their supports, and finally fix the handrail last. The floor fixings are suited to wood — on concrete, allow for additional expansion anchors not included.
The wooden posts and handrail in raw wood require a protective finish before use. Apply varnish or oil-wax depending on the desired look. The metal rails require no particular maintenance — an annual clean with soapy water is sufficient. Check the tightness of screwed fixings once a year.
Use the WoodUp online configurator: enter your exact length, choose the wood species for the posts and handrail, and confirm your order. The balustrade is then manufactured to your dimensions and dispatched to your home. Production lead time to be confirmed directly with WoodUp — generally allow 4 to 8 weeks for bespoke products.
The 2 horizontal rail model has gaps between rails exceeding 11 cm — which is not suitable where young children are present, as they could put their head through or get stuck. For a mezzanine with children, opt for a vertical infill model (spindles, Bespoke wooden spindle balustrade) whose spacing complies with the standard. Consult WoodUp for a suitable configuration.
Yes. The raw wood posts can be painted, oiled or varnished to suit your décor. For a white paint finish on beech posts, apply a bonding primer followed by two coats of satin acrylic paint. Oak and fir also accept paint, but beech gives the best results for light finishes thanks to its fine, uniform grain.
This Bespoke wood and metal rail balustrade has its metal rails arranged horizontally — a very contemporary, open finish with an industrial or minimalist style. The Wood balustrade with vertical aluminium rails has its aluminium rails arranged vertically — a more traditional, visually enclosed finish, suitable for families with children. Both are bespoke with wooden posts; the choice is purely aesthetic and safety-related depending on your use.
The assembly fixings and instructions are included. Floor fixing hardware for concrete substrates (expansion anchors) is not supplied — it depends on the nature of your slab. For a timber floor, the included fixings are generally sufficient. Contact WoodUp before ordering to specify your substrate type.
