Untreated solid wood gate slat 120 cm
Natural untreated solid wood gate board, length 120 cm. Bevelled fir and bevelled Douglas 91x21 mm, rounded pine 80x20 mm. Sold individually. Compatible with Woodup 91x21 mm rails. Calculation: gate leaf length divided by 91 mm (e.g. 150 cm = 16 boards). Waterproof treatment mandatory before installation. Douglas naturally more durable outdoors in exposed conditions. Pre-drill boards before screwing to prevent splitting, especially on dense Douglas.
Solid Wood Gate Slat 120 cm - Fir, Pine or Douglas Fir, Section 91x21 or 80x20 mm
This natural solid wood gate slat measures 120 cm in length. Available in bevelled Fir and bevelled Douglas fir section 91x21 mm, or in rounded Pine section 80x20 mm. Sold individually for the manufacture or renovation of double-leaf gates. This 120 cm length corresponds to the standard height of garden gates and property entrances. A water-repellent treatment is essential before outdoor installation, particularly for Pine and Fir.

Installation advice
For a standard gate spanning 3 m wide: allow approximately 33 slats at 91x21 mm section edge to edge. Plan for 3 rails per leaf (bottom, middle, top) and a diagonal brace for rigidity. Always pre-drill at 120 cm height to avoid splitting at the end of the slat. Use stainless steel screws 4x50 mm minimum.
Spacing between slats: a solid gate acts like a sail in the wind, placing significant stress on the hinges and posts. A spacing of 15 to 20 mm between slats significantly reduces mechanical forces — recommended for large widths and windy areas. A spacing of 10 mm gives a near-solid appearance. Beyond 25 mm, the slatted effect allows light and visibility through.
Maintenance and protection
Apply an exterior wood stain or saturating oil before installation, on all faces and end grain. Renew every 2 to 3 years. Douglas fir can be left untreated and will naturally weather to grey — an annual oil application is sufficient to maintain the appearance. Inspect the lower ends of the slats annually.
Frequently asked questions
How many slats are needed to build a 3 m wide gate?
For a 3 m gate (2 leaves of 1.5 m) with 91x21 mm slats edge to edge: approximately 16 to 17 slats per leaf in 91x21 mm section edge to edge, i.e. 32 to 34 slats for both leaves. With a spacing of 15-20 mm, allow approximately 13 to 14 slats per leaf.
Can these slats be cut to length to achieve a different height?
Yes. Solid wood can be easily cut with a circular saw or mitre saw. If you cut from the bottom, immediately treat the exposed end grain with an end grain protection product.
Which section should be chosen for a gate exposed to strong winds?
The 91x21 mm section (Fir or Douglas fir) is better suited to windy areas thanks to its 21 mm thickness. For very exposed locations, slats of section 150x24 mm (solid Douglas fir gate range) offer significantly greater rigidity.
Is the 80x20 mm pine less resistant to wind than the 91x21 mm?
The thinner profile of Pine (20 mm vs 21 mm) and its narrower width (80 mm vs 91 mm) make this profile slightly less rigid. For wide or wind-exposed gates, opt for Douglas fir or Fir 91x21 mm.
Are there complete kits for building a gate without having to calculate everything yourself?
Yes. The double-leaf gate kit and the Douglas fir gate kits with moulded or straight slats (, 1235) are complete solutions including slats, rails and screws without having to calculate the quantities.
