Installation advice
For a standard fence, place one rail 10-15 cm from the bottom and one 10-15 cm from the top. For heights> 80 cm, add an intermediate rail. Fix the boards to the rails with stainless steel screws 4×40 mm with pre-drilling. Ensure the rails are level before fixing the boards. For gates, also fit a diagonal brace to prevent warping under the weight of the panel.
Care and protection
Treat the rail before installation with an exterior stain or oil. Renew every 2 to 3 years. Douglas fir weathers naturally and remains stable without treatment. Fir requires regular maintenance to avoid accelerated rotting in damp areas. Check annually the contact zones with posts or boards.
Frequently asked questions
How many rails are needed for a gate panel 120 cm in height?
Two rails minimum: one at the bottom at 10 cm and one at the top at 110 cm. For added rigidity, fit a third rail at mid-height (60 cm) and a diagonal brace.
Can the 200 cm rail be used for a gate 200 cm wide?
Yes, the 200 cm rail corresponds exactly to this width. For a gate, allow 3 rails per panel across the height to ensure the rigidity of the whole.
Can the rail be cut to an intermediate length?
Yes. Solid wood can easily be cut with a circular saw or mitre saw. Immediately treat the fresh cut with an end-grain sealant to protect the exposed section.
What is the difference in durability between Douglas fir and Fir for this rail?
Douglas fir has a natural durability class 3 outdoors without ground contact, allowing it to last several years without treatment. Fir (class 3-4) is more susceptible to fungi and requires regular treatment in damp conditions.
Is this rail compatible with Woodup fence and pedestrian gate kits?
Yes. It is dimensioned to fit into all kits in the Woodup fence and gate range using the 91×21 mm section.
