Installation advice
Assemble the wicket gate on a flat surface. Fix the 3 rails first, then the 6 moulded boards with the stainless steel screws provided, pre-drilling first. The diagonal brace is not included in this kit — add a diagonal piece of timber if the leaf will be subject to intensive use to prevent warping. Fit the hardware (heavy adjustable hinges) capable of bearing the weight of the finished leaf (approximately 25 to 30 kg). Apply Douglas oil before installation to maintain the colour.
Maintenance and protection
Douglas fir greys in 6 to 12 months with no loss of strength. Apply an exterior Douglas oil once a year to preserve the colour. Check the tightness of the rail screws and the alignment of the wicket gate every spring. The stainless steel fixings require no particular maintenance.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the moulded-board and straight-board wicket gates?
The moulded-board model has a relief profile on the visible face, giving a more structured appearance. The straight-board model has a plain, clean, contemporary surface. The dimensions, section and composition are identical.
What hardware is needed for this 25 kg wicket gate?
Allow for adjustable hinges capable of supporting a minimum of 30 kg (the assembled leaf weighs 25 kg) (2 hinges per leaf), a latch or bolt depending on use, and a pull handle. Choose stainless steel or galvanised steel hardware.
Can this wicket gate be motorised?
Yes, for a single-leaf wicket gate of 100 cm, a suitable electric actuator is feasible. The 25 kg weight is within the standard range for wicket gate motorisation. Consult an installer for compatibility.
Are the moulded boards visible from both sides?
The moulding is generally single-face (façade side). The inner face shows the boards in a flat profile. Check this point at the time of ordering if the appearance on both sides is important for your installation.
Does this kit include a diagonal reinforcement brace?
No. This kit includes only the 6 boards, 3 rails and 108 stainless steel screws. For very frequent use or windy exposures, add a diagonal piece of timber from corner to corner.
