This 2-leaf kit gate is available in three species: Fir, Pine (section 80x20 mm) and Douglas (section 91x21 mm), in 3 lengths: 300, 350 or 400 cm depending on the species (rounded Pine is available in 300 cm only) for a height of 120 cm. The slats are bevelled on all species, allowing natural rainwater drainage. Installation hardware (hinges, bolt, handles) is not supplied — it must be chosen according to the existing support and the type of opening. Each gate is delivered in 2 separate parcels (one per leaf).

Douglas fir has a natural durability suited for outdoor use of class 3 at the level of its heartwood. As with any natural solid wood, the presence of sapwood may be observed depending on supply and how the pieces are cut. Pine and Fir require a water-repellent treatment before outdoor installation. Fixing the leaves to the load-bearing posts is the responsibility of the installer.

Installation advice

Install the load-bearing posts first, anchoring them to a depth of at least 50 cm in the ground (setting concrete recommended). The spacing between posts must correspond exactly to the chosen leaf length. Fix the rails to the bevelled slats by pre-drilling to avoid splitting. Fit the hinges to the posts before hanging the leaves. Apply a water-repellent treatment to Pine and Fir before installation. For Douglas, the application of an exterior oil or wood saturator is recommended to limit greying and reinforce protection on exposed areas.

Maintenance and protection

Douglas: natural greying within 6 to 12 months due to UV and weathering; an exterior oil or wood saturator helps preserve the original colour. Pine and Fir: water-repellent stain or saturator to be reapplied every 2 to 3 years. Check the tightness of the hinges and the flatness of the leaves every spring. On cut areas or ends, apply an end-grain protection product.

Rounded pine is limited to 300 cm only, unlike fir and Douglas which are available up to 400 cm — check the width of your opening before choosing your species. Installation hardware (hinges, bolt, handles) is not supplied and must be chosen separately based on the weight of the leaf (15 to 25 kg depending on species and length) and the type of support. A water-repellent treatment is mandatory before installation for pine and fir; Douglas, rated durability class 3, may be left untreated outdoors.

Which species to choose between Fir, Pine and Douglas for an outdoor gate?

Douglas is the most naturally durable species for outdoor use. Its heartwood is compatible with class 3 use. As with any natural solid wood, a variable proportion of sapwood may be present depending on the pieces. Pine offers a good strength-to-cost compromise when treated. Fir is the economical option but requires more regular maintenance in damp conditions.

Are the posts included in this kit?

No. The load-bearing posts must be sourced separately according to your installation. Choose treated wood posts (class 4) or metal posts for parts buried or in contact with the ground.

Can a single-leaf gate be ordered with this kit?

Is the hardware (hinges, bolt) suitable for this gate?

Hardware is not supplied. Choose adjustable hinges in stainless steel or galvanised steel capable of supporting the weight of a leaf of 15 to 25 kg depending on the species and length. A mortise bolt is recommended for a clean closure on the central rail.

Can this gate be motorised?

Yes, provided that the posts and hinges are adapted to the chosen gear motor. Consult a specialist installer to verify compatibility before purchasing the motor.
