This 2-leaf gate kit is available in three wood species: fir, pine (80x20 mm cross-section) and Douglas fir (91x21 mm cross-section), in 3 lengths: 300, 350 or 400 cm depending on the wood species (rounded pine is available in 300 cm only), with a height of 120 cm. The boards are bevelled for all wood species, allowing rainwater to run off naturally. Installation hardware (hinges, bolt and handles) is not supplied; choose it to suit the existing supports and opening arrangement. Each gate is delivered in 2 separate packages (one per leaf).

Douglas fir heartwood has natural durability suitable for use class 3 outdoor applications. As with any natural solid wood, some sapwood may be present depending on the timber supply and how the pieces are cut. Pine and fir require water-repellent treatment before outdoor installation. The installer is responsible for fixing the gate leaves to the supporting posts.

Installation advice

Install the supporting posts first, anchoring them at least 50 cm into the ground (setting them in concrete is recommended). The spacing between posts must correspond exactly to the chosen gate-leaf length. Fix the rails to the bevelled boards, pre-drilling to prevent splitting. Fit the hinges to the posts before hanging the gate leaves. Apply a water-repellent treatment to pine and fir before installation. For Douglas fir, an outdoor oil or wood saturator is recommended to limit greying and improve protection in exposed areas.

Care and protection

Douglas fir: naturally greys within 6 to 12 months due to UV exposure and weathering; an outdoor oil or wood saturator helps preserve its original colour. Pine and fir: reapply a water-repellent wood stain or saturator every 2 to 3 years. Check that the hinges are tight and the gate leaves are flat each spring. Apply end-grain protection to cut areas and ends.
