Installation tips

Assemble on a flat, level surface. For this large format, allow for a central support under the long crossbar to prevent deflection under the weight of the soil. On loose ground, anchor the corners lightly with stakes to prevent any movement. Fill in 10 cm layers, tamping between each layer — a full fill to 20 cm represents approximately 350 to 400 kg of growing medium.

Maintenance and protection

Douglas fir turns grey in 6 to 12 months without any loss of strength. Apply an outdoor oil or wood stain once a year to maintain the colour. The screw-free assembly system makes it easy to dismantle at the end of the season for winter storage. Check the module is level every spring before filling.

Frequently asked questions

Can this raised bed be installed directly on grass?

Yes. On grass, the vegetation beneath the raised bed will die naturally from lack of light. A geotextile membrane laid at the bottom before filling prevents unwanted weeds from returning while still allowing water to drain.

Are additional supports needed for a 200 cm raised bed?

To prevent deflection of the long crossbar under soil pressure, place a brick or a support block at the centre of each long side. This reinforcement is optional but recommended for fills greater than 15 cm.

Can this 200x100 raised bed be used alongside a 100x100 model?

Yes, the two formats are independent and can be placed side by side. The interlocking systems are compatible with their respective extensions but are not interchangeable between formats.

Is untreated Douglas fir truly compatible with edible vegetables?

Yes. Untreated Douglas fir contains no chemical preservatives. It is commonly used in organic kitchen gardens in France. Only the progressive greying is to be expected.

What soil depth is suitable for tomatoes in this raised bed?

Tomatoes need at least 30 cm of depth. Add an extension kit to reach 30 cm (base + 1 extension). For very vigorous varieties, 40 cm (base + 2 extensions) is recommended.
