Installation tips
Place the base module on stable, level ground. Slot the boards together, starting at the corners – no tools required. If you are fitting an extension kit at the same time, assemble both levels before filling the bed. If the bed is placed on paving, lay a geotextile liner at the bottom to retain the soil while allowing water through. Fill in layers with a mix of light soil + compost (60/40), firming it down lightly.
Care and protection
Untreated Douglas fir turns grey outdoors within a few months. This is normal and does not affect its strength. Applying exterior oil for Douglas fir once a year in spring maintains its colour. The screw-free system makes it easy to dismantle at the end of the season for cleaning or winter storage. Reassemble it dry before using it again.

Before you buy: the nail- and screw-free assembly uses a system of notches. Check that the ground is level before assembly: any unevenness will create a visible gap once the boards are slotted together. For the usable volume (84x84 cm at a height of 20 cm, approximately 141 litres), allow for 70 to 155 kg depending on the mix (dry lightweight compost, damp compost mix or garden soil). This module can be extended with extension kits (ID 1051) to provide greater growing depth.
Frequently asked questions
How many extension kits can be added to this base module?
A maximum of two extension kits is recommended, bringing the total height to 40 cm. Beyond this, the lateral pressure of the soil may deform the boards.
Will the nail- and screw-free assembly hold up over time?
Yes. The interlocking joints are held in place by the natural pressure of the soil filling the bed. The fuller it is, the more stable the assembly. When empty, the boards can come apart easily, which also makes winter storage easier.
Is this module compatible with extension kits from other brands?
No. The interlocking system is specific to the Woodup nail- and screw-free range. Use only Woodup 100x100 extension kits to ensure the notches fit.
Can this raised garden bed be dismantled for indoor winter storage?
Yes. Dismantling it without tools takes just a few minutes. Store the boards flat in a dry place. Douglas fir withstands frost outdoors, but storing it indoors over winter extends the life of the wood.
How much space do I need to install this raised garden bed?
The raised bed has a footprint of 100x100 cm. Allow at least 60 cm of space all around it for easy access to all four sides when planting and harvesting.
