100x100 Square Raised Bed Riser Kit - No Nails or Screws - Douglas Fir 27 mm, +10 cm

This riser kit is designed to increase the height of the 100x100 nail-free and screw-free square raised bed (base ID) by 10 additional cm. It is made from French Douglas fir, 27 mm thick, using the same interlocking system as the base module: no tools, no fixings. The kit includes 4 boards of 1000x100x27 mm. Two riser kits can be stacked to reach a total depth of 40 cm. This kit is not functional on its own — it requires the 100x100 base module.

Key points

  • +10 cm per kit: increased growing depth for root vegetables
  • Stackable x2: up to 40 cm total height with two risers
  • Tool-free: same interlocking system as the base module
  • Douglas fir 27 mm: same thickness and species as the base module for consistency
  • Dismantlable: makes winter storage or moving easier

Installation advice

Place the riser directly onto the empty or lightly filled base module. Interlock the 4 boards starting from the corners, just as with the base module. If you are fitting two risers at the same time, assemble all three levels together before filling with soil. The pressure of the growing medium naturally holds the assembly in place. For better stability, fill in layers of 10 cm, lightly compacting between each layer.

Care and protection

Maintenance is identical to the base module. Douglas fir turns grey over 6 to 12 months without any loss of strength. An annual outdoor Douglas fir oil applied once a year (in spring) preserves the colour and moisturises the wood. The fixing-free system makes dismantling easy at the end of the season for cleaning or winter storage. Reassemble dry before putting back into service.

WoodUp Tip

Good to know before purchasing: this riser is exclusively compatible with the WoodUp 100x100 cm base module (ID 1050). Check that you have this specific reference before ordering. Each kit adds 10 cm of growing height, with a maximum of 2 stackable risers (total height 40 cm).

Frequently asked questions

Can this riser be used without the Woodup base module?

No. This riser kit is not self-contained — it must be placed on the Woodup 100x100 base module without nails or screws. The notch system is specific to this range.

How many risers can be stacked?

A maximum of two risers are recommended to reach 40 cm of total height (20 cm base + 2x10 cm). Beyond this, lateral pressure may compromise the stability of the assembly.

Is this riser compatible with the 200x100 square raised bed?

No. This kit is sized for the 100x100 module only. For the 200x100 raised bed, use the corresponding 200x100 riser kit.

Does the base module need to be emptied before adding a riser?

No. It is possible to add a riser to a partially filled module by removing a few centimetres of soil around the edges to free the notches. Ideally, add the riser before filling the module completely.

What depth is needed to grow carrots or leeks?

For short carrots (Nantes type) or leeks: 30 cm is sufficient (base + 1 riser). For long carrots (Chantenay type): 40 cm is recommended (base + 2 risers).
