Key points

  • Complete kit: slats, rails, diagonal brace and screws supplied
  • Douglas fir or Pine: choose according to budget and desired durability
  • 100x120 cm: standard dimensions for a garden or vegetable patch gate
  • 90x20 mm section: good rigidity for a gate in daily use
  • Customisable: raw finish to paint, stain, or leave natural

Installation advice

Assemble the slats onto the rails starting with the top and bottom ends. Then fix the diagonal brace starting from the lower corner on the hinge side towards the upper corner on the latch side — this orientation prevents the gate from warping under its own weight. Pre-drill before screwing to avoid splits. Apply the treatment before fixing the hardware to protect the areas beneath the fittings. Choose hinges capable of supporting the weight of the finished leaf — approximately 12 to 15 kg.

Maintenance and protection

Douglas fir: natural greying without loss of strength, annual outdoor oil to maintain colour. Pine: stain or wood saturator to be renewed every 2 years. Check each spring that the rail screws are tight and the gate is aligned to prevent warping.

WoodUp Advice

What to know before buying: the gate is delivered in 1 parcel with its screws, but hinges and latch must be sourced separately depending on the desired opening direction. Untreated Douglas fir can be installed as is and oiled once a year; Pine requires a water-repellent treatment before installation, not after, as some faces of the frame become difficult to access once the assembly is complete. Check the squareness of the frame before definitively fixing the hinges to avoid a gate that sticks or does not close properly.

Frequently asked questions

Are posts required to install this gate?

Yes. The gate is fixed to two load-bearing posts (not supplied) properly anchored in the ground or into an existing wall. For installation on timber posts, choose a minimum section of 9x9 cm anchored to a depth of 60 cm.

What hardware is needed for this gate?

Allow for: 2 adjustable hinges (minimum 80 kg capacity), 1 latch or key lock depending on use, and a pull handle. Choose stainless steel or galvanised steel hardware for outdoor use.

Can this gate open in both directions?

No, unless you use double-action hinges. With standard hinges, the gate opens in one direction only. Specify which side you want it to open from when installing.

Are the screws supplied stainless steel?

The screws supplied are stainless steel, ensuring the durability of the outdoor assembly without risk of corrosion.

Can this gate be motorised?

Motorising a 100 cm gate is technically possible with a suitable electric actuator. The weight of the leaf (12–15 kg) falls within the range of most standard motorisation systems. Consult a specialist installer.
