Installation advice

Install the supporting posts (not supplied), setting them at least 80 cm into the ground or in a concrete foundation. The spacing between the post centres must match the chosen width exactly. Assemble each leaf separately: fix the crosspieces first, then attach the moulded boards with the supplied screws. Fit the central closing strip before hanging the leaves on their hinges. Choose adjustable hinges capable of supporting 40 to 50 kg per leaf. For an automated gate, install the leaves before doing any wiring.

Care and protection

Douglas fir turns grey in 6 to 12 months without losing strength. To preserve its colour, apply Douglas fir outdoor oil each spring. Check the hinge adjustment and the gap between the leaves every year – changes in temperature and humidity cause the wood to move slightly. The central closing strip must align correctly for the gate to close properly.

Frequently asked questions

Are posts supplied with this kit?

No. The supporting posts must be purchased separately. For a gate with a 150x24 mm cross-section, use class 4 treated timber posts measuring at least 12x12 cm, or metal posts set in concrete.

Can this gate be fitted with a motorised drive?

Yes, provided you choose an automated system suited to the weight of each leaf (40–50 kg) and the width of the opening. Plan for automation from the start of the project so you can allow for wiring and actuator mounting.

Does the central closing strip provide a draught-proof closure?

The central closing strip ensures the two leaves meet neatly in the middle. For a closure that almost completely blocks draughts and views, the 150 mm boards cover most of the opening when fitted without gaps. A little light coming through at the sides is normal.

Can this gate be ordered at a height of 150 cm instead of 120 cm?

This model is available only at a height of 120 cm. For a taller gate, build a made-to-measure one using 150 or 175 cm boards and suitable crosspieces.

What is the difference between the moulded-board and straight-board gates?

Only the board profile differs. Moulded boards have a raised surface profile on the front. Straight boards have a plain, flat surface. The dimensions, cross-section and contents are identical.
