Installation advice
Assemble the pedestrian gate on a flat surface. Start with the 3 rails (bottom, middle, top), then fix the 6 slats with the 108 stainless steel screws supplied, pre-drilling as you go. The diagonal brace (not included) is recommended for windy locations or high-traffic use. The ironmongery requires hinges capable of supporting a minimum of 30 kg. Apply Douglas oil before fitting to preserve the colour.
Maintenance and protection
Same maintenance as the moulded-slat model: annual exterior oil to maintain the colour, spring check of screws and alignment. Douglas fir greys in 6 to 12 months with no loss of mechanical strength.
WoodUp Tip
What to know before buying: this straight-slat pedestrian gate does not include fixing posts, which must be sourced separately depending on your installation (timber, metal or masonry posts). The 150x24 mm slat section is wider than standard fence slats (91x21 mm), giving a more substantial appearance. Natural Douglas fir can be left untreated (gradual greying) or oiled to retain the original colour for longer.
Frequently asked questions
Is this straight-slat pedestrian gate less expensive than the moulded-slat model?
Both models are identical in composition and dimensions. Any price difference is solely due to the slat profile — check current prices on the product page.
Does this kit include the fixing posts?
No. The load-bearing posts must be sourced separately. For a pedestrian gate weighing 25 kg, choose posts with a minimum section of 10x10 cm or concreted-in metal posts for optimum hold.
Can this pedestrian gate be painted in colour after assembly?
Yes. Raw Douglas fir accepts all microporous exterior paints. Apply a wood primer before the finishing coat. Preferably paint the slats before assembly to easily access the inner faces.
What is the estimated lifespan of this Douglas fir pedestrian gate?
With annual maintenance (exterior oil), a Douglas fir pedestrian gate in section 150x24 mm can last 15 to 20 years. Without maintenance, natural greying is accompanied by slight surface degradation after 5 to 8 years, without compromising the structure.
Is this pedestrian gate suitable for a kitchen garden or children's garden entrance?
Yes for a kitchen garden entrance. For a children's garden, check the spacing between slats (5 to 10 cm gap depending on configuration) and add extra slats if necessary to reduce the gaps.
