This natural untreated wood fence slat measures 60 cm in length. Three species are available: bevelled fir and bevelled Douglas in 91x21 mm section, and rounded pine in 80x18 mm section. Sold individually to build or extend a low fence, a garden gate or a decorative panel. Compatible with 91x21 mm section rails from the Woodup range. An exterior water-repellent treatment must be applied before installation.

Installation advice

Calculate the number of slats required: for a fence with no gap, allow 17 slats of 60 cm per linear metre (91x21 mm section fitted edge to edge). With a 5 mm gap between slats, allow 15 to 16 slats per metre. Pre-drill each slat before screwing to prevent splitting, particularly with Pine and Fir. Use stainless steel 4x40 mm screws to prevent rust streaks. Apply the treatment to all faces and edges before installation.

Gap between slats: the choice of gap affects both wind resistance and visual effect. A gap of 10 mm gives an almost solid appearance. Between 15 and 20 mm, wind resistance is reduced — recommended for long runs and exposed areas. Beyond 25 mm, the trellis effect allows light and sight lines through.

Maintenance and protection

Renew the water-repellent treatment or wood stain every 2 to 3 years depending on exposure. Douglas can be left untreated and will naturally silver. Untreated pine and fir deteriorate rapidly in damp conditions — the initial treatment is essential. Check the tightness of the screws annually, especially at the ends of the rails.

It is compatible with the WoodUp 91x21 mm rails (ID 754), to be ordered separately if you are working on a bespoke project rather than a complete kit. The rounded pine has a different section (80x18 mm) from the fir and douglas slats (91x21 mm): do not mix species in the same project without checking fixing compatibility. Water-repellent treatment is mandatory before installation.
