Key points

  • 3 species: Fir, Pine or Douglas fir according to desired appearance and durability
  • Sold individually: precise ordering according to the linear metres of fencing required
  • Compatible with Woodup rails: consistent assembly across the entire range
  • Bevelled profile (fir/Douglas fir): natural rainwater drainage
  • Rough sawn wood: can be painted, stained or left natural to suit your décor

Installation tips

Calculate the number of boards required: for a fence without spacing, count 17 boards of 60 cm per linear metre (91×21 mm section laid edge to edge). With a 5 mm spacing between boards, count 15 to 16 boards per metre. Pre-drill each board before screwing to avoid splitting, particularly with Pine and Fir. Use stainless steel screws 4×40 mm to avoid rust stains. Apply the treatment to all faces and edges before installation.

Spacing between boards: the choice of spacing affects both wind resistance and visual effect. A spacing of 10 mm gives an almost solid appearance. Between 15 and 20 mm, wind load is reduced — recommended for long runs and exposed areas. Beyond 25 mm, the louvre effect lets light and sight through.

Maintenance and protection

Renew the water-repellent treatment or wood stain every 2 to 3 years depending on exposure. Douglas fir can be left untreated and will naturally turn grey. Untreated Pine and Fir deteriorate quickly in damp conditions — the initial treatment is essential. Check the tightness of the screws annually, especially at the ends of the rails.

Frequently asked questions

How many boards are needed for 1 metre of fencing without spacing?

For a 91×21 mm section laid edge to edge: 11 boards per linear metre. With a 5 mm spacing: approximately 10 boards per metre. Adjust according to the desired spacing between boards.

Can different wood species be mixed in the same fence?

Technically yes, but as the sections are different (91×21 mm vs 80×18 mm), the visual result will be inconsistent. It is advisable to stick to a single species for aesthetic consistency.

Are these boards compatible with the 91×21 mm rails in the range?

Yes. The bevelled fir and Douglas fir boards in section 91×21 mm are directly compatible with Woodup 91×21 mm rails. The rounded Pine (80×18 mm) can also be fixed to them but presents a slight visual offset.

What is the difference between a bevelled board and a rounded board?

The bevelled board has a top edge with an inclined bevel that promotes rainwater runoff, limiting moisture at the top. The rounded board (Pine) has a decorative semi-cylindrical profile, less optimised for water drainage.

Can these boards be painted in colour rather than stained?

Yes. An exterior microporous paint (acrylic or alkyd) is perfectly suitable for this type of wood. Apply a wood primer before the finishing paint for better adhesion and durability.
