Installation advice

Before ordering — essential measurements: Check that your ceiling opening measures exactly 1300 × 780 mm minimum. Metallica has a fixed dimension that cannot be adjusted. Record your exact floor height (finished floor bottom to finished floor top) in mm. Measure the available space at the foot of the staircase (minimum 2 m² for reception and assembly). These measurements are essential before ordering.

Step height determination: With 12 steps, Metallica covers a height between 228 cm (190 × 12) and 282 cm (235 × 12). Your exact floor height determines the optimal step height. Example: to clear 2650 mm in 12 steps, the step height will be approximately 221 mm. When ordering, provide your exact height; the team will confirm feasibility and configuration.

Site preparation: The floor support must be flat and stable (concrete, screed or solid timber flooring). The ceiling requires a solid anchor for the central column. Minimum 2 m² of access around the base for reception. Clear the area and locate the exact centre of the stairwell opening.

Assembly: The staircase arrives pre-assembled in sections. Main steps: (1) position the central column vertically (precision < 2 mm), (2) stack the treads, (3) fix the column to the floor/ceiling (two support points required), (4) check overall stability. Estimated duration: 3–4 hours with two fitters. Reduced weight greatly facilitates handling.

Maintenance and protection

Lacquered beech — routine maintenance: Clean twice a month with a microfibre cloth dampened with warm soapy water (pH neutral). The factory lacquer protects the wood without any additional treatment. Avoid standing water and harsh solvents (alcohol, acetone). Over time (10–15 years), if the lacquer shows visible wear, professional revarnishing restores protection and appearance.

Powder-coated steel — column and barrier: Wipe monthly with a dry cloth. In humid or coastal environments, a slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Check annually for any powder coating chips exposing bare steel (a sign of possible corrosion). In the event of a deep scratch, powder coating touch-up is available on request.

Lifespan: With regular maintenance, the Metallica staircase retains its functional and aesthetic qualities for a minimum of 15–20 years in residential use. Steel + solid beech structure offers lasting durability. Reduced weight diminishes overall structural wear.
