Spiral staircase: a modular product
Our spiral staircases for indoor use provide a simple answer to a complex problem: lack of space. Combining wood and metal, spiral curves, and a helical sweep, the indoor staircase is modern thanks to its contemporary design. Outdoors, the metal helical staircase is a durable solution for accessing the upper floor. To find the right spiral staircase, the notions of safety, number of steps and assembly are important.
Spiral staircase: steel structure and safety
Benefit from our expertise and opt for a helical staircase designed for intensive use. Woodup designs spiral staircases that guarantee a high level of safety. Our spiral staircases consist of a steel frame and a landing of extreme strength. Each helical staircase model features a landing balustrade and a handrail with flat bars, cables or tubes (lacquered steel, stainless steel), meeting the strictest safety standards.
Diameter of indoor and outdoor spiral staircases
All spiral staircases in the Woodup range are available in different diameters. The helical staircase is exemplary in terms of modularity:
•space-saving model diameter 120 cm for assembly in a limited indoor space;
•standard model diameter 140 cm, combining space saving with easy movement;
•comfort model diameter 160 cm, the majestic option for a limited space.
Larger staircase diameters are available to order.
Spiral staircase: adjustable steps
Choose a height-adjustable spiral staircase model and make assembly easier for yourself. The vast majority of spiral staircases in our range offer the option of adding an extra step. This is a solution to improve comfort when moving up or down, for example:
•staircase height 3740: 16 steps;
•staircase height 2330: 10 steps.
Some spiral staircase models allow height adjustment between 2 steps (21.5 to 23.5 cm).
Helical staircase: the space-saving option
Whether in wood or metal, the spiral staircase takes up less space than a straight staircase or a quarter-turn staircase. Spiral staircases are the only staircases that can be assembled in a round stairwell. Woodup provides an additional modularity solution by offering, as desired, an adaptable landing for a round or square stairwell. The helical staircase also provides a solution for the entrance or exit of the staircase at the upper floor, thanks to the choice of rotation direction (clockwise or anticlockwise).
Kit assembly of the spiral staircase: easy
One of the great advantages of design spiral staircases is kit assembly. The design of our packaging guarantees delivery of our staircases in perfect condition, after a rigorous quality check. Assembling our spiral staircases delivered as a kit is easy to carry out thanks to detailed instructions. From fitting the central column to installing the steps and balustrade, Woodup staircases are easy to assemble.
Assembly precautions
The Woodup spiral staircase is designed for assembly without a tradesperson. It meets DIY project needs. As a kit, it is designed from A to Z for easy assembly. The central stringer, steps, handrail and balustrade adjust without modification.
Before starting, take stock. Check your measurements and dimensions twice before drilling. Fitting the central column to the floor is the first operation. If you have underfloor heating, refer to the specific fixing device in our catalogue.
Maintenance and upkeep
A true artisan product, the Woodup spiral staircase is a durable product. The wooden steps are in beech or glued laminated oak for greater stability. The stringer steel is thick and of high quality. Like any artisan product, the staircase requires regular maintenance.
To extend its lifespan, protect the wooden steps. Before first use, apply a hard oil, varnish or floor sealer. Clean the staircase regularly with mild household products. Limit water use, favour damp cloths.
The spiral staircase and the contemporary home
To facilitate assembly according to the floor-to-floor height of each home, our spiral staircases are height-adjustable. On the aesthetic side, our spiral staircase range offers a wide choice of materials, colours and styles. You will find the model that integrates elegantly into the targeted indoor or outdoor space.
Choosing spiral staircase steps: wood or metal
Spiral staircases offer an extremely diverse range of materials. In solid wood or glued laminated timber, the steps and the landing, 30 or 40 mm thick, have a raw or tinted finish:
•steps on a metal frame in glued laminated beech;
•beech steps, natural décor, walnut;
•steps on a metal frame in solid oak.
Some staircase models offer fully metal steps (contemporary staircase, outdoor staircase).
Helical staircase: finish and colours
The Woodup spiral staircase offers several colours to harmonise tastefully with the constraints of your interior design (silver-grey lacquered steel metal frame, white, black). The fully metal, galvanised staircase fits perfectly into an interior or exterior with a contemporary design.
Choice of styles: the helical staircase opens up a world of possibilities
Black contemporary metal spiral staircase, modern helical staircase with grey metal frame, white MDF steps, bi-material metal and beech spiral staircases — spiral staircases give a unique finish to a loft, a room accessing the upper floor, or a workshop.

Standards and safety
By its very nature, the spiral staircase must guarantee user safety. All our models comply with staircase standards. This is particularly the case for the tread depth, the height between steps, and the height of the balustrades.
Beyond style, colours and decorative elements, our spiral staircases guarantee ergonomics. They facilitate movement with arms full, both going up and coming down. Most models support up to 200 kg/m².
Choosing the right Woodup spiral staircase
Choosing a spiral staircase is straightforward if you proceed methodically. The approach involves using a decision matrix. It must take into account usage, architecture and interior design, and of course dimensions. Woodup shares the method used by its experts.
1 - Dimensions
Measure the stairwell size carefully. The principle is to choose the staircase that "fits". Also take the floor-to-finished-floor height measurements. Often, the first step allows the staircase to be adjusted so that it "lands well" at the upper landing level.
2 - Architecture
A spiral staircase may be chosen due to a lack of space. If the stairwell allows it, opt for a diameter of 140 cm, a good compromise between space saving and ergonomics. Make sure the staircase entrance (ground floor) is perfectly positioned.
3 - Conditions of use
Is the spiral staircase the main staircase in the house? In that case, adapt your choice accordingly. Use will be intensive. Plan for oak steps, which are very robust. With young children, opt for balustrades with vertical balusters.
4 - Décor and style
Take into account the décor, its style and the dominant colours. Also assess the natural light sources. In a dark interior, we recommend beech, a lighter wood than oak. Complete with a white or grey metal frame.

FAQ - Your questions about spiral staircases
A true craftsman staircase designer and manufacturer, Woodup supports its customers from A to Z. Assistance available from your very first steps via our chatbot. Choosing and installing a spiral staircase raises many questions. Discover our initial answers.
How long will it take to receive my staircase?
Our staircases are dispatched to you via our dedicated carrier. The average delivery time for models in stock is 10 to 15 days. Are you considering a bespoke spiral staircase? Allow a lead time of 6 to 8 weeks.
Can you really assemble the staircase yourself?
Yes. Our staircases are designed for DIY assembly. No carpentry skills required. Installation is within the reach of a DIY enthusiast. We do however recommend getting some help. Particularly for fitting the steps onto the central stringer and securing the landing.
What is the best diameter?
A comfortable diameter: 160 cm. But the configuration does not always allow it. If space is an issue, 140 cm is a good compromise. In extreme situations: we offer diameters of 110 or 120 cm for space-saving models.
Can a metal staircase be installed indoors?
Yes. We supply white painted metal spiral staircases for indoor use. You have the choice between a model with a diameter of 100 to 160 cm, 10 to 17 steps and a bespoke model. Metal brings a distinctly contemporary and very elegant design.
Space-saving straight staircase or spiral staircase?
This question relates to a constrained interior architecture. If the stairwell allows it, favour the spiral staircase. Its use is more comfortable and safer than the space-saving straight staircase with alternating-tread steps. It allows going up and down with arms full.
