The Arlberg balustrade is a straight metal model with a solid natural beech handrail, designed for standard indoor straight staircases. Its height of 100 cm complies with French regulations for landing balustrades. Arlberg’s understated, straight-lined design suits any interior style, from contemporary to classic, combining the warmth of natural wood with a clean-lined metal structure.

The beech handrail is supplied unfinished and untreated. A protective finish is essential before use: untreated beech stains quickly where it is touched or subject to foot traffic. Installation tips

Apply a protective finish to the beech handrail before installation: staircase varnish (2–3 coats) for a heavily used staircase, or hardwax oil for moderate use. Once the balustrade is in place, the underside of the handrail becomes difficult to reach. Choose floor-fixing screws to suit the material of your steps and substrate (not included). Check that everything is level and plumb with a spirit level before fully tightening the fixings.

Care and protection

Beech handrail: clean with soapy water and apply a light coat of staircase varnish every 5 to 7 years, depending on how heavily it is used. Metal structure: dust it and occasionally wipe with a damp cloth; no treatment is needed in a dry indoor setting. Check that the connections are tight once a year.

Before you buy: the unfinished natural beech handrail must be treated before installation. A hard-wearing staircase varnish offers the best resistance to wear from hands. Apply 2 coats to all surfaces, including the ends, allowing 24 hours of drying time between coats. Floor-fixing screws are not included: choose them to suit your substrate (wood, concrete or tiles). This model is suitable for standard straight staircases; for stairs with a turn or landing, a made-to-measure balustrade is more suitable.

Is this Arlberg balustrade suitable for a staircase with a side stringer?

Arlberg is designed for standard floor mounting, using a base plate at the bottom of the post. Fixing it to a side stringer may require special side-mounting plates, which are not included. Can the beech handrail be replaced with a stainless steel one?

This model comes with a beech handrail as standard. For a stainless steel handrail or other materials, contact WoodUp: other versions may be available. Alternatively, the all-aluminium Quadrum and Ellipsis ranges offer entirely metal configurations with gloss black or polished stainless steel finishes.

Can this straight balustrade be installed on a spiral staircase?

No. Arlberg is designed for straight staircases with a straight run. For a spiral staircase, the LUSETTE, OUMENET, ESPINAS and TRIBALE balustrades are specifically suited to the steps and geometry of spiral stairs.

What is the difference between this Arlberg balustrade and the OUMENET model?

OUMENET is designed specifically for the CEYSSAT staircase, with connection geometry tailored to that particular model. Arlberg is a versatile straight balustrade for standard straight staircases, rather than a specific staircase brand. If you have a CEYSSAT staircase, choose OUMENET. For any other standard straight staircase, Arlberg is more suitable.

Is this Arlberg balustrade available in a sloping version to follow the pitch of a staircase?

This model is designed for installation on a landing, in a horizontal position.
