Quadrum Aluminium Extension Kit – 100 cm Extension for Square-Rail Balustrades

Each Quadrum extension kit extends an existing Quadrum balustrade by 100 cm. It connects directly to the Quadrum aluminium starter kit or another extension kit to cover spans of 220 cm, 320 cm or more. It comprises one pre-assembled post, a 100 cm handrail and five 100 cm square rails. It is available in gloss black or a gloss stainless-steel finish to match the starter kit.

Anodised aluminium provides corrosion resistance without special maintenance – this kit is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, including coastal settings if rinsed regularly with fresh water. The accessories for joining modules (rail and handrail connectors) and floor-fixing screws are not included – order them separately to suit your layout.

Installation tips

Joining: Position the extension kit in line with the starter kit. Join the square rails between modules using Quadrum connectors Quadrum 16x16 mm rail connector. Join the handrail using 80x30 mm horizontal connectors Quadrum 80x30 mm articulated handrail connector. If your layout includes a corner, use articulated joints Quadrum 16x16 mm articulated rail joint. These accessories must be ordered separately.

Fixing: Fix the extension kit post to the floor with fixings suitable for your surface (not supplied). Carefully align it with the starter kit posts before attaching the rails – a misaligned post puts the rails under strain and stresses the joints. Check that the rails are level with a spirit level before final tightening.

Care and protection

The same care as the starter kit: clean annually with soapy water and rinse with fresh water in coastal areas. Anodised aluminium does not need painting or treatment – anodising provides lasting surface protection. Check the joining accessories annually for tightness, as outdoor temperature changes can cause them to loosen slightly.

WoodUp tip

Before you buy: this extension kit is compatible only with the QUADRUM range – it cannot be used on its own or with the ELLIPSIS range. A QUADRUM starter kit is required as the base. Each module adds 100 cm to the span. To calculate the number of modules: (total span − 120 cm) ÷ 100 cm = number of extension kits needed. Rail connectors and angled joints must be ordered separately if your layout changes direction.

Can several extension kits be used in succession?

Yes. The Quadrum system is designed to be extended with successive modules. 1 starter kit + 2 extension kits = a 320 cm span. 1 starter kit + 3 extension kits = 420 cm. There is no theoretical limit, but beyond 4–5 metres, check the rigidity of the whole assembly – an additional intermediate post may be needed. Order as many extension kits as required, along with the corresponding joining accessories.

Are the joining accessories specific to the Quadrum range?

Yes. Quadrum rail connectors, handrail joints such as the Quadrum 80x30 mm articulated handrail connector, and articulated joints such as the Quadrum 16x16 mm articulated rail joint are specific to the Quadrum range and are not compatible with the Ellipsis range. Always check that you are ordering accessories from the correct range before completing your purchase.

Will the gloss black finish resist scratches under heavy use?

The gloss black anodised finish is more susceptible to fine scratches than the gloss stainless-steel finish, especially outdoors where it is exposed to wind and airborne particles. Is the Quadrum extension kit compatible with another brand’s starter kit?

No, the Quadrum extension kit is compatible exclusively with the WoodUp Quadrum starter kit. The 80x30 mm handrail profile, 16x16 mm square rails and fixing brackets are specific to this range. The joints and connectors (articulated joints and rail connectors) are also Quadrum-specific and cannot be interchanged with those from the Ellipsis range or other brands.
