Individual Quadrum Range Post in Anodised Aluminium – Rail Supports and Base Plate Included

This individual Quadrum post is a structural component made from anodised aluminium, designed to extend or customise an existing Quadrum balustrade. It comes with square rail supports and a fixing base plate, allowing it to be fixed directly to the floor without first assembling these components. It is mainly used to add an intermediate post to a long span or to build a balustrade entirely from individual components.

Available in gloss black and gloss stainless steel finishes, it maintains a consistent look across the Quadrum installation. Floor fixings are not included because they depend on the surface (concrete, wood or tiles). This post is compatible exclusively with the WoodUp Quadrum range: its rail supports are sized for 16x16mm square rails.

Installation tips

Fix the base plate to the floor with suitable fixings (not included) before positioning the post. For concrete, use Ø8mm expansion anchors. For timber floors, use Ø6mm stainless steel screws at least 50mm long. Check that the post is vertical on both axes with a spirit level before fully tightening. If adding this post midway along an existing span, join the rails on either side using Quadrum 16x16mm rail connectors.

Care and protection

Clean with soapy water once a year. Check the tightness of the base plate and rail supports annually. In coastal environments, rinse with fresh water after periods of salt-laden wind.

Is this Quadrum post interchangeable with an Ellipsis post?

No. The Quadrum post has a flat profile with supports for 16x16mm square rails. The Ellipsis post has a round profile with supports for Ø16mm round rails. The two ranges use different, non-interchangeable components. Always check that you are ordering from the same range as your existing installation.

Where should an intermediate Quadrum post be positioned?

The Quadrum system is designed for 100cm extension modules and 120cm starter modules. If adding an intermediate post to an existing span, position it halfway along the relevant section. Without an intermediate post, bending of the rails under lateral load may become noticeable beyond 200cm; adding a post is recommended.

Are floor fixings really not included in the kit?

Yes. Floor fixings are not included because they depend on the type of surface and local standards. Use Ø6mm stainless steel screws for timber floors or Ø8mm expansion anchors for concrete, with matching washers. For tiles, use a diamond drill bit before fitting nylon plugs suited to the thickness of the slab.

Can I use individual posts to build a complete Quadrum balustrade without a kit?

Yes. By combining several individual Quadrum posts, such as the individual Quadrum post, with 16x16mm square rails, an 80x30mm handrail and suitable connectors, you can build a bespoke balustrade entirely from individual components. This approach suits unusual layouts where standard kits do not fit. It requires careful planning of rail and handrail lengths.

Can this Quadrum post withstand a significant lateral force, such as a child leaning on it?

When correctly secured to the floor by its base plate with suitable fixings, the anodised aluminium Quadrum post withstands the regulatory lateral loads specified by standard NF P01-012 (horizontal force of 500 N per linear metre). Its strength depends mainly on the quality of the floor fixing: an inadequately anchored base plate is the main cause of failure. On concrete, use Ø8mm expansion anchors with certified pull-out resistance. On timber floors, screw into the load-bearing structure (joist or batten), not just the floor covering.
